This study asked the question: What are the effects of an inservice on classroom modifications for secondary learning disabled students on the teaching practice of four highly able teachers? A secondary question asked was: To what extent are teachers‘ behavior and attitudes affected by follow-up consultation? The participants were four secondary regular classroom teachers representing four curricula areas (English, social studies, health, and biology). All four had been recognized as having the ability to work well with learning disabled students. The purpose of this study was twofold: to gain a better understanding of the nature of the specific reading disability of dyslexia and to find out how a classroom teacher could best meet the needs of the dyslexic child. After reviewing and analyzing the literature dealing with this problem of reading disabilities, the writer attempted to present the significant problems confronting those planning an educational program for the child handicapped with dyslexia. The problems were: (1) early identification of the specific reading disability, (2) comprehension of the nature and causes of dyslexia, and (3) determining the special teaching methods necessary …
