In thinking about How EBTs might be incorporated into public relations coursework to promote deep learning, it was determined there would be multimedia youtube video production assignment, where students make a youtube tutorial on a threshold concept in comm 344, Public Relations Writing. To do this, students approached this in a problem based learning model, and planned for it with a think/pair/share planning session.

Drawing on insights from Bakhtin (1986) that demonstrated the significance of writing as an interaction, and building on recent developments in narrative analysis that offer insights into narrator’s sense making processes (Daiute, 2014; Lucic, 2013); this research explores how freshmen in an educational opportunity program used interactive writing media to make sense of their transition to college. The need for the effective development of digital literacies pervades every aspect of instruction in contemporary classrooms. As a result, teacher candidates must be equipped to draw upon a variety of literacies in order to tap into the complex social worlds of their future pupils. The Write for Your Life Project was designed to strengthen teacher candidates’ skills in both traditional and digital writing literacies through the use of social networks, blogging, texting, online modules and other social media. This lesson plan accompanies a set of transparencies illustrating various aspects and problems of newswriting. I feel that this type of presentation, with its use of visual aids, will make a greater impression on the student than a straight lecture approach.

The three lessons detailed in this project are concerned strictly with basic newswriting. Hopefully, the student will already have had some introduction to newsgathering before being exposed to this presentation.

The focus of this project is on fundamentals, and little attention is given to the more advanced problems one encounters in writing interview, speech and feature stories.
