Schools in East Asia have shown a preference for hiring young, native English-speakers from majority white countries as EFL teachers. In addition, the high demand for English language instruction has made it difficult to fill all positions with qualified teachers. As a result, there is an issue with undertrained and underqualified native English-speaking teachers in East Asian classrooms.
