Have you ever examined the sources of unconscious bias and how bias can influence interactions with others? Have you ever explored how cultural values impact our own biases and interactions? Cultural awareness and seeking to understanding unconscious biases are critical first steps towards improving our performance; however, we cannot stop there. It is not enough to simply be ‘aware’ anymore. Have you come across challenges in how you handle cultural situations with students, teachers, or administrators? If so, have you considered skills that can help you facilitate conversations more effectively? How would you rate your organization’s effectiveness managing cultural situations?
