The growing interest in EFL around the world has required learning opportunities that engage and maintain the motivation of students to learn English. This article aims to provide an analysis of the level of motivation, the motivational orientations that students experience, and explain the motivational factors that influence student motivation, these are relevant factors according to Dörnyei (2003) and Gardner (2010; 2009). Assessing the speaking performance of students who are studying English as a Foreign Language (EFL) has mainly been conducted with face-to-face speaking tests. While such tests are undoubtedly interactive and authentic, they have been criticised for subjective scoring, as well as lacking an effective test delivery method and recordings for later review.

This paper examines ESL/EFL homework and homework design first through the exploration of two distinct approaches to homework and homework design and second through the presentation an explanation of the conclusions I reached regarding homework and homework design.
