With the passing of Brown vs. the Board of Education and the subsequent Civil Rights Movements of the 1960’s, it was perceived that African Americans would be afforded the inalienable right of an adequate and equal education. Although many African Americans took advantage of this right, and excelled both educationally and economically, others fell prey to erosion of the African American community and persistent stereotypical mental model of American society.
