Arts participation can expand empathy and cognitive growth capacity while creating a social bond and communal meaning (McCarthy et al., 2004). As an art instructor for over twenty years, I have witnessed the bonds that can be created through collaborative art experiences. These bonds are nurtured from a space of equity and inclusion. Teaching a community-engaged art course can bring these qualities into the community, allowing university students to use their art skills in real-world applications to impact society through experiential learning art practices. A book review of Margo Fuchs Knill’s and Sally S. Atkins’s “Poetry in Expressive Arts: Supporting Resilience through Poetic Writing” published in 2021 by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.

Like the authors of the book, this review is written in partnership. Author and creative writing teacher Lucien Zell reflects on the book’s theme of resilience. Expressive arts professional Katrina Plato follows with a couple of her own poems and then work by clients in response to the book’s prompts.

The process of collectively writing the Artizein articles in this issue has come to an end. In this video you can see how we harvested the gifts of our writing collaboration. Each of us made a visual artwork that we shaped as a creative digestion of our work together. The group responded to each members’ art through written words and movement. Each member then gave a final message that gathered what emerged and touched her from the group, the blessing.

Drawing upon Emmanuel Levinas’s ethics of the face-to-face relation, Carol A. Public libraries serve as repositories for a movement described as cultivation of the Library of Things. In the wake of COVID-19, the West Lafayette Public Library enhanced its existing Library of Things collection through the creation of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) kits. Since 2017, the West Lafayette Public Library has held regular free STEAM programs for the community; those programs were put on hold during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which concurred with a library renovation. In this article, I share insights from research and experience working as a teaching artist and mentor inside and outside traditional institutions. I investigate how relational and contemplative pedagogies promote and sustain authentic relationships of reciprocity. This dissertation thesis examines the lived experiences, life stories, and storytelling of five Afro-Caribbean and Latina people, who are all local from the borough of Queens, alumni of New York City’s public schools, and since then, became their local public school teachers, classroom practitioners, and local community teachers. We refer to this specific and unique population of teachers as alumni-community teachers and to these and other similar stories as teacher life stories.

This study aims to determine the role of communication and marital acceptance in marital adjustment for dual earners married under 10 years. A total of 93 respondents are involved in this study. The criteria for selecting respondents are married employees of company X in Surabaya; married under 10 years; have a working spouse. A quantitative research method with a correlational design is used. Communication, marital acceptance, and marital adjustment scales are also used. Multiple linear regression analysis shows that communication and marital acceptance have a significant role in marital adjustment. Trauma is the emotional response to a disturbing event or series of events, and can cause symptoms such as unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, headaches, and nausea, according to the American Psychological Association (2022). Pearls Of Wisdom: A Portrait Of Artist-Educator Pearl Greenberg, Pamela Harris Lawton, Angela M. Laporte

International Journal of Lifelong Learning in Art Education

This article examines the life of Dr. Pearl Greenberg, artist-educator-researcher and co-founder of the Committee on Lifelong Learning through narratives of remembrance by the authors, art education colleagues, and students who knew her. Using the qualitative research method of portraiture, an image emerges of Pearl as characterized by three patterns or themes consistently mentioned in the narratives: experiential knowledge, candidness, and supportive/mentorship. In addition, quotes from the “Aging Monologues,” Dr. Greenberg’s own narrative inquiry research, collecting narratives from participants aged 21 through 96 on their perspectives on aging, are incorporated to complete a rich, artful, and multi-layered portrait of Pearl.
