Providing treatment interventions to clients with chronic pain is a complex task for any professional. Research suggests that clients with chronic pain experience declines in physical, emotional, and psychological quality of life. Client’s that have chronic pain have complex effects from dealing with this condition in their lives. Hashmi and colleagues found that clients with chronic pain (i.e., pain lasting > three months) process pain through the emotional and reward circuitry in the brain. The literature base provides evidence that clients with chronic pain who receive psychologically based interventions along with physical rehabilitation have better outcomes than individuals with chronic pain …

VCU is experiencing unprecedented levels of growth in its research operations, having secured more than $460 million in sponsored research funding in fiscal year 2023 and becoming one of the top 50 public universities in the country for sponsored research. Between FY18 and FY22, sponsored research funding at VCU increased by 49% (Crawford et al., 2022). Nonetheless, many faculty members are leaving a key resource untapped: VCU’s undergraduate students. According to Dr. Srirama Rao, Vice President of Research and Innovation, in a recent State of the Research address, only about 600 undergraduate students participate in sponsored research annually. This digital zine was the result of a course I was taking. The project was for students to develop a fully fleshed-out digital version of the promotion or advertisement of a program titled "CAFE" (Creative Arts for Everyone) at a nearby art center called the Hearst Center for the Arts after completing close to 10 volunteer hours over the span of three months for the program. The project's goal was to utilize digital promotion to potentially funnel in art consumers, artists, customers, and volunteers. I proposed that my master’s Project would be outreach on Entomology at four levels: School aged children, laymen, non-entomologists in a technical field, and entomologists. Academic advisement plays a significant role in enrollment retention and degree attainment. Little is known, however, about what master’s students want and need from their advisement experience, as most research on advisement preferences has focused on undergraduate students. The Prescriptive/Developmental Preference Scale (Yarbrough, 2010) was designed to assess students’ academic advisement preferences, particularly as they relate to prescriptive and developmental advisement. The author of the PDPS, which was piloted with undergraduate students, found that the instrument had construct validity issues, especially regarding the Prescriptive construct. Corporate training and development, despite their significance as primary learning strategies for adults, have received limited research attention. This study addresses this gap by evaluating and comparing the effectiveness of video-based and digital job aid procedural-based microlearning in a corporate setting, utilizing most of the Kirkpatrick Model: learner satisfaction, knowledge retention, and behavior change. Employing a mixed methods approach to gain a comprehensive understanding of microlearning’s application and potential for improving business outcomes, the study incorporates pre- and post-tests, participant interviews, and self-reported questionnaires. Undergraduate research is a specific pedagogical practice with an impact on teaching and learning, and the definition of what counts as research continues to expand to include different types of projects, mentors, and institutions. Diversity, equity, and inclusion in librarians’ work with students and faculty are present and growing. Collaborations between faculty, librarians, and students are furthering student knowledge in new ways. This community and an awareness of students’ non-academic challenges demonstrate the library’s contribution to students’ overall sense of belonging within their institutions. This chapter describes the involvement of an academic library with an undergraduate research program.

It is easy to become inundated with school, work, and daily life that we forget to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness “is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us” (Mindful Staff, 2020). The goal of this activity is to demonstrate mindfulness through planting a seed and practicing daily mindfulness as we take care of the seed while it grows. This research is an experiment in perspective. Using the four commonplaces (Schwab, 1978), I practiced letting the Savannah River teach me what there is to know about the water, the land, the people, and the other entities that depend on ki through artistic, ethnographic, and ecopedagogical lenses. The ethnographic findings describe the social actors that depend on ki and give a voice to the River. The a/r/tographic findings display the River on a canvas map through two hundred years using paint, clay, photography, video, abstract acrylics, and fabric. While the field of female military-affiliated student-specific research is growing, understanding the compounding challenges of these dynamic students through their different identities is necessary to support them in their academic endeavors. This quantitative study examined the relationship between academic integration and college persistence for female military-affiliated students at a four-year research institution. This study intended to understand the relationship between pre-entry attributes of female military-affiliated students and the likelihood of stop out and dropout. This project highlights the ways that Aristotelian interpretations of ethos continue to inform and shape contemporary writing pedagogy, despite their potential outdatedness in the context of the 21st-century composition classroom. Authors used an andragogy framework to help undergraduate allied health students better understand social determinants of health (SDOH) using a photo essay assignment. The study examined students’ perceptions of SDOH in various communities, description of health outcomes associated with their chosen SDOH, and lessons learned and suggestions to improve the assignment for future cohorts. Data were extracted from photo essays from 2019–2021 and entered in Microsoft Excel and Word for data analysis after course completion. Conventional qualitative content analysis was used to analyze student evaluation data from open-ended questions. Data were extracted from 53 student essays from 2019 to 2021. …

การพัฒนาโปรแกรมการศึกษานอกระบบโรงเรียนเฉพาะบุคคลเพื่อเสริมสร้างทักษะการทำงานของผู้ที่มีความบกพร่องทางสติปัญญา มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาสภาพปัจจุบันและวิเคราะห์ทักษะการทำงานที่จำเป็นสำหรับผู้ที่มีความบกพร่องทางสติปัญญาตามความต้องการของหน่วยจ้างงาน 2) พัฒนาโปรแกรมการศึกษานอกระบบโรงเรียนเฉพาะบุคคลเพื่อเสริมสร้างทักษะการทำงานของผู้ที่มีความบกพร่องทางสติปัญญา 3) ศึกษาผลการใช้โปรแกรม และ 4) นำเสนอคู่มือการใช้โปรแกรม การวิจัยนี้เป็นการวิจัยแบบพหุวิธี (Multi methods Disign) แบ่งขั้นตอนการวิจัยเป็น 4 ระยะ คือ ระยะที่ 1 วิเคราะห์ทักษะการทำงานที่จำเป็นสำหรับผู้ที่มีความบกพร่องทางสติปัญญาตามความต้องการของหน่วยจ้างงาน โดยการสัมภาษณ์กลุ่มเป้าหมายจำนวน 31 คน ระยะที่ 2 การพัฒนาโปรแกรม มีกลุ่มเป้าหมายจำนวน 19 คน ระยะที่ 3 ตรวจสอบประสิทธิภาพของโปรแกรม ด้วยการใช้การวิจัยเชิงทดลองในรูปแบบ Single Subject Design มีกลุ่มเป้าหมายจำนวน 11 คน และระยะที่ 4 พัฒนาคู่มือการใช้โปรแกรมโดยใช้การสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก กลุ่มเป้าหมายจำนวน 10 คน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1. ลักษณะการจ้างงานผู้ที่มีความบกพร่องทางสติปัญญาตามพระราชบัญญัติส่งเสริมและพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตคนพิการ พ.ศ. 2550 มี 3 ลักษณะ คือ การจ้างงานคนพิการด้วยมาตรา 33 มาตรา 35 (3) และมาตรา 35 (7) โดยกฎหมายเอื้อประโยชน์ให้คนพิการ ลักษณะงานมีความสอดคล้องกับศักยภาพ ความสำเร็จในการจ้างงานเกิดจากทักษะ ความสามารถ ความชอบ แรงจูงใจ และความร่วมมือจากทุกภาคส่วน ทักษะที่มีความจำเป็นมากที่สุดในการทำงานคือ ทักษะในชีวิตประจำวัน ทักษะสังคม ทักษะอาชีพ และทักษะพื้นฐานหรือทักษะวิชาการ ตามลำดับ ทักษะย่อยที่มีความจำเป็น ได้แก่ การดูแลตนเอง การควบคุมตนเอง การรับข้อมูลและทำตามคำสั่ง และการสื่อสาร 2. โปรแกรมการศึกษานอกระบบโรงเรียนเฉพาะบุคคลเพื่อเสริมสร้างทักษะการทำงานสำหรับผู้ที่มีความบกพร่องทางสติปัญญา ประกอบด้วย หลักการพื้นฐาน ข้อมูลพื้นฐานของผู้เรียน เป้าหมายและผลลัพธ์ของโปรแกรม เนื้อหา ระยะเวลาเริ่มต้นและสิ้นสุด กระบวนการเสริมสร้างทักษะการทำงานและแผนกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ ผู้สอนและบทบาทหน้าที่ เทคโนโลยี สื่อ และแหล่งทรัพยากร และ เครื่องมือติดตามความก้าวหน้าและวัดผลความสำเร็จ 3. ผลการทดลองใช้โปรแกรม …

This study used a quasi-experimental design to evaluate the efficacy of integrating XR welding simulations into traditional training programs. The performance outcomes of participants were assessed by an independent American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Instructor (CWI). Participants were evaluated using the NCCER Performance Accreditation Tasks evaluation. After 20 hours of training, the participants used a traditional welder to perform a vertical 3F weld on a steel weld coupon. Three treatment groups were used to evaluate the sequence of extended reality welding simulators in a traditional welding program. Insufficient research exists concerning why active-duty enlisted noncommissioned officers do not pursue education past a high school diploma. Although higher education is becoming a minimum qualification in the civilian world, only 17% of enlisted servicemembers have higher than a high school degree. The purpose of this study is to explore the lived experiences, beliefs, and awareness of Army education benefits and the disconnect between higher education enrollment and active-duty noncommissioned officers. Two-hundred and sixty-five enlisted active-duty noncommissioned officers participated in an online survey and fifty-two noncommissioned officers participated in a one-on-one interview. This qualitative study focuses on the experiences of adult learner single mothers in college. Specifically, this research sought to understand how student loan debt informs their ability to persist and their well-being. In addition, the study examined the supports single mothers in college receive and the support they need to persist to degree attainment. Using a narrative inquiry design, semi structured interviews were conducted with 2 participants from a mid-sized public university in the northeast of the United States. Research suggests student achievement improves when teachers connect with their students and create lessons and instruction based on their needs (Hattie, 2003; Stronge, 2018). Unfortunately, educators throughout the United States report losing control over the educational decisions they make in their classrooms at startling rates (Ingersoll, 2011; Wright, 2020). A recent study by Ingersoll, Merrill, Stuckey, and Collins (2018) found that approximately 50% of educators leave the profession within their first five years of teaching.
