The purpose of this paper is to assist professions to develop, in conjunction with National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition, the most suitable methods of assessing individuals against national competency standards; to provide advice on assessment methods likely to be practical and useful for the professions generally; and to provide advice on assessment methods consistent with the Commonwealth government's principles for the reform of the overseas skills recognition process. The authors consider alternative ways of conceptualising occupational competence and show how different conceptualisations can have very different implications for assessment. The Effects Of General Equivalency Diploma (Ged) Acquisition On Parole Success In Kentucky, William Ratliff

Post release follow-up was conducted on a total of 95 Kentucky Correctional Facilities inmates, who had acquired a General Equivalency Certificate in the years 1981-1983.

The rate of Recidivism of this group was compared to that of all parolees released during that period.

It was found that the parolees in general who were released during that time period returned to the institution at a rate of 36.7 percent, The parolees who had completed the GED Program in the institution prior to release returned at a rate of 35.78 percent.

The problem investigated was the degree of incongruence between the perceptions of nursing education administrators and nursing service administrators in regard to the educational preparation and employment practices for technical and professional nurses which has contributed to discontent in the profession. The population studied was nursing education administrators in AD and BSN programs and nursing service administrators in general acute care hospitals in West Virginia. The research method was a descriptive survey using a mailed questionnaire developed by a researcher. Eighteen (100%) of the nursing education administrators and sixty (89.6%) of the nursing service administrators responded.

The purpose of this project was to conduct a limited search for support of adult basic education proposals among 35 private foundations. Questionnaires were sent, seeking information about foundations' attitudes toward adult basic education, target populations, and potential proposals. The results showed a wide range of attitudes, from indifference to cautious interest to enthusiasm. Suggestions for researching potential sources of support are presented along with the responses of the 35 foundations.

The problem was to determine the feasibility of predicting a student's success specific college, on the basis of data available at the time of the student's admission to the college.
