Investigating Self-Directed Learning And Adult Learner Readiness Attributes In A Call Center Environment, Mary Suzanne Scott-Muenter

This study investigated the self-directed learning (SDL) attributes of call center employees and explored the impact of an adaptive learning intervention used within the corporate training program. Training Tech Services’ Student Employees Well: Evidence-Based Training Techniques In Conjunction With Coaching And Mentoring Strategies, Shan Martinez

Library Research and Publications

Librarians in higher education who work in technical services must frequently rely on student employees to accomplish tasks previously assigned to professional staff only. Hiring, training, managing and mentoring student workers for the performance of high level library functions can prove challenging. However, working side-by-side with student employees can be a positive experience when evidence-based training techniques and effective coaching and mentoring strategies are utilized. This paper focuses on training techniques integrated with ongoing coaching and mentoring strategies which promote a positive work environment and motivated, successful student employees.

Use Of Portable Electronic Assistive Technology To Improve Independent Job Performance Of Young Adults With Intellectual Disabilities, James Collins Jan 2012

Use Of Portable Electronic Assistive Technology To Improve Independent Job Performance Of Young Adults With Intellectual Disabilities, James Collins

All Dissertations

Poor employment outcomes for persons with intellectual disabilities (ID) persist, despite the development of legal policies designed to enhance access to gainful employment and to promote increased community integration. Recent data suggest that only 37% of young adults with ID obtain paid employment outside of the home. Among persons with ID who do obtain employment, career options are limited and nearly half are paid below minimum wage. Various strategies have been used to improve employment outcomes for those with ID, such as use of a job coach and teaching self-management strategies on the job site. These strategies often involve the …

An Ant's Eye View : Some Pluses And Minuses, Dave Tout

David (Dave) Tout

This article provides a history of adult numeracy teaching, looking back at the rise and development if adult numeracy provision, mainly in Victoria, from the perspective of an ANT (adult numeracy teacher), beginning in the late 1970s. The author then describes what lies on the horizon, what lessons adult educators can learn, and what opportunities might lie ahead for adult numeracy in the next decade or so. The article contains an exposition on the benefits of explicitly recognising and supporting numeracy within the language, literacy and numeracy equation. The author argues that, given the Australian data from ALLS, there is …

John J. Wheeler

A growing area of concern in the field of developmental disabilities is how to deliver and evaluate quality services and supports to persons with developmental disabilities and their families. This has been termed quality assurance. Quality assurance has been defined as a process which involves the identification and articulation of certain values and beliefs which serve as a foundation for the delivery of services and supports (Sundram, 1993). The quality assurance process is aimed at how services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families are delivered and evaluated.
