Hollywood and Theatre have been partners in producing entertainment for over 100 years. The relationship was fruitful for both parties, but Hollywood moguls and playwrights battled over ownership of the work and crafting of its creative nucleus, story and character. Theatre was the dominant entertainment right before the rise of motion pictures. Once Hollywood’s talkies closed the curtain on silent films, playwrights had a high creative worth to movie makers. Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts will host “Dear Miss Day” and “Hollywood’s Golden Age” exhibits Jan. 30 through Feb. 24 featuring curated memorabilia from mid-20th century Hollywood. The two-part exhibit will be displayed in Moses-Provine Hall’s Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery and is free and open to the public.
Cherry Davis, a Louisiana native and movie enthusiast, recently donated the collection of Doris Day and Hollywood memorabilia to Ouachita’s Department of Theatre Arts, in honor of her mother, a 1933 Ouachita graduate.

When Faye Dunaway, standing next to a puzzled-looking Warren Beatty, announced that La La Land had won Best Picture at Monday's Oscars, I doubt many people were surprised. Sure, pretty much all of the queer film fans, writers and academics I follow on Twitter were hoping for a win by the new gay classic Moonlight, but we are a crowd that has been disappointed before.
