A Case Study On Teacher Perceptions Of The Wisconsin State Educator Effectiveness Requirement: Mandates And Results, Daniel Unertl
Dissertations (1934 -)
Teachers are the essential element in improving student learning in education. The State of Wisconsin requires public school teachers to participate in the Wisconsin Educator Effectiveness System. There is limited research on the links between required participation with the State of Wisconsin’s Educator Effectiveness System and on the experience of teachers and their outcomes for students (Dvorak et al., 2014; Jones, 2017). This qualitative case study explored, through semi-structured interviews, the experiences of Wisconsin educators who engaged with the EE System, teachers’ connections with EE and subsequent changes to their practice. The study addressed whether teachers’ felt the technical elements …

Occupational and Environmental Medicine Journal of Indonesia
Background: In 2022, the Indonesian Occupational Medicine Association (IOMA) collaborated with oil and gas companies and conducted a web-based seminar (webinar) to enable participants to recognize occupational disease earlier and enhance reporting in companies. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the webinar in increasing the intended knowledge.
Method: The webinar was separated into three batches, with different participants per batch. Using a one-group pretest-posttest design, we utilized secondary data from IOMA. The effectiveness of the webinar was determined by participants' satisfaction and knowledge as measured by pre-test and post-test. After performing item analysis, we removed poor discriminating items in …

The Effectiveness Of Concept Maps On Students’ Achievement In Science: A Meta-Analysis, Dimitris Anastasiou, Clare Nangsin Wirngo, Pantelis Bagos
Graduate Research - Education
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of concept maps on science achievement among elementary and secondary education students, including low-achieving students. A systematic search located 55 studies about concept mapping in science achievement published in peer-reviewed journals and dissertations between 1980 and 2020. We extracted 58 independent standardized mean difference effect sizes from 55 eligible studies involving 5,364 students from Grade 3 to Grade 12 who used concept maps to learn physics/earth science, chemistry, and biology that met the specified design criteria. A random-effects model meta-analysis revealed that the mean effect size was moderate for overall science (g …

Making Connections
When staff, faculty, and students reflect on their experiences at a university, most recognize that they have benefited from more than one mentor-type relationship. Within this handbook, we naturally think of a mentor as someone in a university. However, people often have mentors outside a university, such as alumni or practicum supervisors. Students, faculty, and staff can also benefit from mentoring relations with mentors inside and outside their respective departments or college.

The Perceived Results Of Feedback And Evaluation Of Teaching Effectiveness On Adjunct Faculty Professional Development And Growth, Luda V. Vine
Dissertations
Problem
While full-time faculty at any institution of higher learning undergo an established system of evaluation of teaching effectiveness, adjunct faculty members' experience varies greatly from institution to institution. There is little in the relevant academic literature about an effective feedback mechanism for evaluating teaching effectiveness among adjunct faculty members. Limited qualitative research has been done to understand the effects of teaching evaluations on the professional development and growth of individual adjunct faculty members. Developing an understanding of effective evaluation of teaching that will result in improved adjunct faculty professional development and growth will impact not only the faculty members' …

Faculty And Student Perceptions Of The Effectiveness Of Online Instruction During The Covid-19 Pandemic And The New Paradigm Of Higher Education In The Post-Covid Era — A Mixed Methods Study, Meng Yan
ETD Archive
Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, entire student bodies in the United States were compelled to take all their classes online. Given the challenges of online instruction, combined with the time and support it takes for faculty to become proficient in teaching online, it was likely that the online learning experiences instructors provided to their students were not fully featured and that new teaching approaches were not optimally implemented. Using the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework (Garrison et al., 2000) as the theoretical framework, this explanatory sequential mixed methods study aimed to investigate university faculty and student perceptions …

Mentorship And Teacher Retention: Analysis Of Beginning Special Education Teachers’ Experiences In Minnesota, Michele Barron-Albers
Culminating Projects in Education Administration and Leadership
Beginning special education teachers each year enter their classrooms with high expectations and best-practice strategies they are eager to employ. Related literature affirmed, however, that they are quickly faced with what Charlotte Danielson (1999) described as a “sink or swim in the deep end of the pool” culture (p. 251-7) as they grapple with the needed sudden transition from theory to practice. Done well, effective mentoring can become the bridge between preservice learning and classroom experience and guide beginning special education teachers toward a deeper and more impactful teaching practice.
This study’s purpose was to explore facets of new special …
