Perceived Training Needs Of Principals In Northeast Tennessee: Analysis Of Data In Two Selected Years, Ann M. Little
Perceived Training Needs Of Principals In Northeast Tennessee: Analysis Of Data In Two Selected Years, Ann M. Little
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem of this study was to compare perceived training needs of public school administrators at two points in time and to analyze those needs as to age, sex, educational degree, and experience of respondents. The survey population consisted of public school principals in the 14 systems of the First Educational District in Northeast Tennessee. A descriptive research design was chosen for the study. A follow-up questionnaire was developed based on the 1986 Brown Survey which surveyed the same population for demographic and professional characteristics in addition to the perceived training needs of principals, superintendents, and school board members. A Demographic Evaluation Of The Certification Qualifications Of Secondary Science Teachers With Implications For School Administrators, Joan S. Bowen
A Demographic Evaluation Of The Certification Qualifications Of Secondary Science Teachers With Implications For School Administrators, Joan S. Bowen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This population study of the certification qualifications of the secondary science teachers of the Upper East Tennessee region in 1984-85 was conducted to determine if there was a qualification shortage in any science-teaching area at the beginning of the Comprehensive Education Reform Act (CERA). Data were obtained from the Tennessee State Department of Education Preliminary Report Forms for Staff. Subject certification data and 1984-85 teaching assignment were analyzed to find percentages of infield, out-of-field teaching and the size of the internal pool of active certificated science teachers who were not teaching. Results of these analyses were presented for each system …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem of this study was to determine the level of concern of supervisors and administrators in the state of Tennessee toward mainstreaming classes for the severely mentally retarded and the classes for the multi-handicapped into the regular schools. The Change Facilitators Stages of Concern Questionnaire (CFSoCQ) was the instrument selected as appropriate for the study. Permission was obtained from Dr. Gene Hall at the University of Florida to reproduce and administer the CFSoCQ. A stratified random sample was conducted as representative of the total population of superintendents, special education supervisors, special day school principals, high school principals, middle school …

Implementing Educational Software And Evaluating Its Academic Effectiveness: Part Ii, Karen Jolicoeur, Dale E. Berger
Implementing Educational Software And Evaluating Its Academic Effectiveness: Part Ii, Karen Jolicoeur, Dale E. Berger
CGU Faculty Publications and Research
In Part I, published last month, we presented a successful classroom implementation plan for integrating educational software into elementary school classrooms. Implementing educational software successfully into classrooms is an essential prerequisite to achieving the second goal of the present research-evaluating how much students learned by using specific software programs. In Part II, we will measure how effective eight software programs were at teaching fifth grade students new fraction concepts and spelling words. In addition, we will examine the validity of teacher and student software ratings based on the effectiveness of each program.

Implementing Educational Software And Evaluating Its Academic Effectiveness: Part I, Karen Jolicoeur, Dale E. Berger
Implementing Educational Software And Evaluating Its Academic Effectiveness: Part I, Karen Jolicoeur, Dale E. Berger
CGU Faculty Publications and Research
Two major obstacles are responsible for the delay in getting good educational software into schools. First, software implementation is a complex process that many schools are simply not prepared to undertake. Second, there is very little empirical research available on the specific factors that make educational software effective, leaving it extremely difficult to separate good from poor quality software. We will describe a basic plan for implementing educational software into classrooms, incorporating a research design that permits educational researchers to measure the effectiveness of the software. Part I of this series of two articles presents a basic plan for implementing …

Evaluation Of School Superintendents In Nebraska: Practices And Perceptions, Edwin H. Johnson
Student Work
The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and practices of the evaluation process of school superintendents in Nebraska as viewed by them. A review of the literature provided the major impetus for this study. The data were collected through administration of a questionnaire mailed to 18 Class A superintendents and 31 randomly selected superintendents each from Classes B, C, and D. Descriptive statistics were used to report quantitative data. A one-way ANOVA and chi-square were used to report Likert scale and mutually exclusive items, respectively.

Upward Mobility Determinants For The Elementary Principalship, Lynda S. Greene
Upward Mobility Determinants For The Elementary Principalship, Lynda S. Greene
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The primary objective of this study was to identify determinants of upward mobility for individuals who subsequently achieve elementary principalships. Since many educators aspire to elementary principalships, awareness of tangible and intangible determinants is important to principalship candidates in their upward movement to the elementary principalship. The basic research tool was a qualitative research interview. A purposive sample was used involving individuals with identified expertise and with access to certain desired information. Therefore, the study involved two levels of administrative personnel--superintendents who recommend and elementary principals who have been appointed to positions within school systems. The sample included 21 school …
