Ensuring Culturally Inclusive Online Learning For International Students: A Delphi Study To Identify Requisite Instructor Competencies, Kristen Lina Heaster-Ekholm Aug 2023

Ensuring Culturally Inclusive Online Learning For International Students: A Delphi Study To Identify Requisite Instructor Competencies, Kristen Lina Heaster-Ekholm

Doctoral Dissertations

The dramatic expansion of online learning in U.S. higher education has been accompanied by a notable shift in the demographics of students enrolled in these courses. International students are among those participating in online courses in growing numbers, infusing the virtual space with greater cultural diversity. Many instructors are unprepared for this change. Culture plays an influential role in how we learn, yet instructors rarely consider it in the design and facilitation of their online courses. This can have a negative impact on learners and often affects international students in disproportionate ways. The purpose of this study was to identify …

Strategies For Differentiating The Curricula For Online Gifted Students: A Delphi Study, Joy Nehr Jan 2022

Strategies For Differentiating The Curricula For Online Gifted Students: A Delphi Study, Joy Nehr

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Educators must meet the needs of the growing online gifted learner population to ensure these students are being appropriately challenged and are receiving the education they deserve. Current gifted education literature does not address the strategies for differentiating the curriculum for online gifted students. The study participants were teachers with at least 5 years’ experience working online or working with gifted students. The purpose of this qualitative study was to determine the best strategies for teachers to use to differentiate the curricula for this population. The theoretical frameworks used were Ward’s differential education and Tomlinson’s differentiated instruction methods. Both theories …

Factors Affecting Registered Behavior Technicians’ (Rbts’) Intent To Stay Or Leave: A Delphi Study, Samantha Joy Villanueva Jasa Aug 2021

Factors Affecting Registered Behavior Technicians’ (Rbts’) Intent To Stay Or Leave: A Delphi Study, Samantha Joy Villanueva Jasa

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Approximately one in 54 children in the United States were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in 2020 (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2020). The most common treatment for children with ASD is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which uses and applies behavior analytic principles to various interventions to increase social skills, self-help skills, and communication skills, as well as decrease protest or self-stimulatory behaviors (BACB, 2021a; Dixon et al., 2017). Registered behavior technicians (RBTs; BACB, 2021d) are the individuals necessary to work directly with children with ASD providing ABA services, however, the estimated turnover rates for RBTs range from …

A Delphi Study Of Aviation Maintenance Experts' Recommendations For A Model School Curriculum, Fred D. Dyen Apr 2017

A Delphi Study Of Aviation Maintenance Experts' Recommendations For A Model School Curriculum, Fred D. Dyen

Teaching & Learning Theses & Dissertations

The program described in this paper is the essential first step in reviving and reinitiating the delivery of aviation maintenance technology instruction. The demand for aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs) is rapidly increasing and there is a need to provide as many as 679,000 AMTs over the next 20 years (Boeing, 2016). Given the high cost of certification, new aviation maintenance schools are unlikely to be certificated in the near future, and ramping up the existing schools to meet the anticipated demand is unlikely without incorporating attractive cost-effective measures such as competency-based and distance education.

The purpose of this study is …

Persistence To Graduation Of Students In The Teacher Preparation Program At Murray State University, David Meinschein Jan 2017

Persistence To Graduation Of Students In The Teacher Preparation Program At Murray State University, David Meinschein

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

This study focused on persistence, and graduation rates of traditional students attending four-year public institutions. The study highlighted the complexity of persistence and degree completion by examining risk factors that impact persistence and degree completion. The purpose of this study was two-fold. First, the study sought consensus from a group of stakeholders, graduates from Murray State University’s (MSU) Teacher Education Program (TEP), to determine a list of specific expectations of a postsecondary institution in persisting to degree completion. Secondly, the study gathered data from the stakeholder of how each expectation was met while enrolled in the TEP at MSU.

What Superintendents Should Do To Position Their Districts To Be Prepared For The Changing Nature Of Technology In The Next Ten Years: A Delphi Study, Ean Ainsworth Apr 2015

What Superintendents Should Do To Position Their Districts To Be Prepared For The Changing Nature Of Technology In The Next Ten Years: A Delphi Study, Ean Ainsworth

Dissertations

Over the past twenty years, schools and districts have been faced with the challenge of integrating technology into their classroom instruction. The rapid rate of evolution that technology changes has placed new burdens on school and district leaders to plan meaningful professional development, create and develop effective policy, and focus on school and district culture. In the coming years, the changing nature of technology is not expected to slow down and most certainly will accelerate. The purpose of this Delphi study was to identify what K-12 superintendents should do to position their districts to be prepared for the changing nature …

Delphi Study Of Ecosystem Characteristics And Inclusion Of Elementary Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders, Kimberly M. Walker Jan 2015

Delphi Study Of Ecosystem Characteristics And Inclusion Of Elementary Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders, Kimberly M. Walker

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Recognizing characteristics that improve inclusion in general education classrooms allows educators and parents to make conscious decisions regarding how students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be included most appropriately. The purpose of this qualitative Delphi study was to understand the opinions of individuals with expertise in the fields of autism and inclusion as to the characteristics and behaviors within the environmental constellation that support or inhibit inclusion of elementary students with ASD. The conceptual framework was based on tenets of applied behavior analysis, multiple intelligences, and ecosystem characteristics. Research questions addressed characteristics and behaviors of general and special education …

Measuring The Technical Difficulty In Reusing Open Educational Resources With The Alms Analysis Framework, Seth Michael Gurell Dec 2012

Measuring The Technical Difficulty In Reusing Open Educational Resources With The Alms Analysis Framework, Seth Michael Gurell

Theses and Dissertations

The Open Educational Resources (OER) movement was started roughly ten years old (Wiley & Gurell, 2009). Since that time thousands of resources have been produced. Though these resources have been used both for classroom development and for the autodidact, the development of OER was not without problems. Incompatibility between Creative Commons licenses has made revising and remixing two resources difficult, if not impossible (Linksvayer, 2006). Tools to help educators find appropriate educational resources have been necessary but are still nascent. Educators' perceived quality issues have also hampered adoption (Wiley & Gurell, 2009). The result is that resources were only being …

A Conceptual Model Of Career Development To Enhance Academic Motivation, Nancy Creighton Collins Apr 2010

A Conceptual Model Of Career Development To Enhance Academic Motivation, Nancy Creighton Collins

STEMPS Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to develop, refine, and validate a conceptual model of career development to enhance the academic motivation of community college students. To achieve this end, a straw model was built from the theoretical and empirical research literature. The model was then refined and validated through three rounds of a Delphi study. The Delphi study solicited the opinions of students who had successfully completed community college programs.

Three research goals guided this study: (1) identify the components of modern motivation theory that apply to the academic motivation of community college students, (2) identify key components of …
