The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of cooperative learning (CL) on the math performance of middle and high school students with Emotional Behavior Disabilities (EB/D). Two classes, for a total of 16 students, participated in the study. One class of eight students was used as the control group. The other class of nine students was placed in three groups of three cooperative learning teams. The study was conducted between September 1", 2004 and March 20, 2005. As evidenced by the numbers of published papers, several educators have reassessed and revised their cooperative learning techniques, but perhaps very few have done more for the refinement of this form of teaching than Roger and David Johnson, professors at the University of Minnesota and founders of the Collaborative Learning Center. The Lateblight computer simulation (Arneson and Ticknor, 1990) has been implemented in the general biology laboratory and the science methods course for elementary teachers to reinforce the processes of science and to allow the students to engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate the methods of building concepts in science. The students develop testable hypotheses and then use the program to run experiments and collect data. In addition, they research relevant background information and subsequently present their results in a poster during class.

The purpose of this study was to gauge the impact of cooperative learning teams on interracial friendships. The participants were 256 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students in English classes (20% African American and 80% Caucasian) at a rural middle school in Louisiana. After delivery of instruction, the experimental group studied worksheets in teams, received rewards based upon the team's performance, and received individual grades based upon individual exam scores. The control group studied worksheets individually and received individual grades. In this article, the authors explain what they mean by collaborative learning and suggest ways of promoting effective collaboration in senior mathematics. Issues discussed include group composition, the design of suitable tasks for collaborative work, setting norms for student behaviour and the teacher's role in promoting effective discussion. Students' views on collaborative learning are also presented. Perceived advantages include improved understanding, enjoyment and communication skills. Some perceived disadvantages and ways of minimising them are also discussed.

The purpose of this workshop was to inform Lincoln County R-III teachers of the valuable aspects of cooperative or team learning . Research has shown that students at all grade levels have benefitted both academically and socially. Also, with this learning method alternative, teachers and students alike derived pleasure from the improved relaxed atmosphere brought about by collegial learning . The workshop, staged in 3 two-hour sessions, enabled elementary, junior-high, and secondary teachers to learn about cooperative learning while being cooperative learners .
