Predicting A Rationale Weighted Criterion For Admission To Higher Education Institutions, Hala Abubaker Bagabir, Ahmed M. Bagabir Prof.
International Journal for Research in Education
Undergraduate selection, especially for medical degree programs, is a challenging and controversial matter for both national and international institutions. The importance of this paper lies in trying to identify the process of selecting prospective students for medical studies in Saudi Arabia. The currently applied admission criteria are the weighted average score (WAS) of the three pre-university attainments, the general secondary school (GSS), the general aptitude test (GAT), and the scientific achievement test (SAT). There is a different weightage assigned to WAS throughout the national medical institutions. It raises concern about the scientific rationale behind the differences. The present research correlates …

MPA/MPP/MPFM Capstone Projects
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is the most widely used graduate level admission test in the world, yet conflicts exist across the findings of many studies of the ability of the GRE to predict the success test takers will have as graduate students or in professional life. Additionally, most of the studies that exist on the GRE’s ability to predict graduate student success use data from a previous version of the GRE that may not be applicable to the current version, thus rendering their use for policy making among makers of admission decisions limited and flawed. These studies also tend …

This paper estimates the predictive power of the SAT for college success. Most studies use GPA as a proxy for college success, but GPA is subject to differing grading standards across instructors and departments. Using individual course grades of Macalester College students from 1996 to 2005, this paper uses fixed effects to control for students sorting themselves into particular departments and courses. After controlling for sorting by major, a general trend emerges: the Math SAT is more predictive for science and math-related social science majors while the Verbal SAT is more predictive for language majors. After controlling for sorting by …
