A Dream Deferred: Black Girls And Student Discipline: Administrators' Perspective: A Case Study, Jacqueline E. Holland
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this multiple-embedded case study was to explore school administrators’ perspective on the school-to-prison pipeline and the repercussions on Black females at high schools in the Eastern region of the United States. The theory guiding this study was the social justice theory, as it explains the relationship between the social justice principles and exclusionary discipline norms and practices, racial injustice, and gender stereotypes that marginalize Black girls and increase their criminal justice involvement. The central research question of this study was: How do school administrators address the overrepresentation of Black girls that are suspended and expelled from school? …

Middle And High School Administrators’ Perceptions On The Use Of Culturally Responsive Leadership Practices Related To Student Discipline, Amanda Mccullough
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Educators in the United States have become increasingly concerned about students who are suspended out of school because they miss classroom instruction and are then less likely to graduate. The problem addressed in this study was that school administrators continued to use exclusionary practices for discipline negating more culturally responsive practices. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore middle and high school administrators’ perceptions on their approaches to discipline and culturally responsive practices when considering disciplinary consequences as an alternative to out of school suspension. Culturally responsive school leadership served as the conceptual frameworks for this study. …
Mentor Teacher And Administrator Attitudes And Beliefs Toward Mentoring Programs In K-12 Education In South Mississippi, Krystle Womack
Mentor Teacher And Administrator Attitudes And Beliefs Toward Mentoring Programs In K-12 Education In South Mississippi, Krystle Womack
Dissertations
The teaching profession relies heavily on mentor programs to promote teacher retention, to reduce attrition and to increase the quality of new teachers. Teachers grow professionally through gaining knowledge. Mentor teachers show professional growth through knowledge gained from mentoring programs and serving as mentor teachers.
There is a significant gap in mentoring research in that the mentoring literature is limited in perspective. Research focuses solely on the perspectives of the beginning teacher or the person being mentored, but the perspective of more than one stakeholder is needed to give the full picture of induction and mentoring. This study uses a …
Examining The Perceptions And Knowledge Of School Administrators In Special Education, Maranda Hayward
Examining The Perceptions And Knowledge Of School Administrators In Special Education, Maranda Hayward
Theses and Dissertations
School administrators play a critical role in special education and it is essentially their responsibility to ensure policies, procedures, and practices are carried out in accordance with the law. This requires that school administrators know the requirements of the law and research-based practices in special education. Researchers have shown that school administrators perceive themselves as having adequate knowledge and understanding of special education law; however, there is a lack of research on the practical knowledge of school administrators in special education. This study, using hypothetical scenarios, examined whether school administrators were able to determine if a decision or action made …

Football Connections Impact On High School Graduation: A Qualitative Study, Devin Rakin Allison Sr
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this case study was to understand the influences that playing high school football has on graduation. The theories guiding this study were the theory of connectedness and the theory of attachment and how students' connections to football helped them achieve the goal of graduation. Ainsworth and Bowlby and their theories of attachment were used to tie football as an extracurricular activity to graduation and why educators push for students to be involved. I attempted to show the benefits that involvement in football helps a student succeed in high school. Themes like connections, support, and academics were revealed …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to understand middle and high school administrators’ perceived influence of social media on school discipline and student behavior in southeastern Virginia. Bandura’s social cognitive theory and Skinner’s behavioral theory of operant conditioning guided this study and provided the theoretical framework for learning through observation and reinforcement. Twelve middle and high school administrators participated in this study and shared their administrative experiences regarding social media and its perceived influence on student discipline and behavior in their respective schools. The central question guiding this research study was the following: What are the experiences of …

Strategies For Christian Educators And Administrators To Move From Pre-Pandemic Vuca Reaction To Post-Pandemic Vuca 2.0 Response., Doug Atha
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
Abstract
Pre-pandemic Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (VUCA) realities added specific complexity to education and administrative practice at Christian schools, influencing Christian school educators and administrator reactions to the challenges experienced in their social and professional contexts (Ungerer, Ungerer and Herholdt, 2016). Post-pandemic realities however, will require greater diligence for Christian educators and administrators. The transition from pre-pandemic reactive responses to VUCA influence on Christian school environments to applying visionary, understandable, courageous and adaptive (VUCA 2.0) strategic principles for those same environments, is a necessary strategic challenge to accept. Christian school educators and administrators wanting to support a healthy and …

The central research question for this study was: …

"And Still I Rise": Exploring Black Women's Joy While Aspiring To The College Presidency, Courtney E. Matthews
Educational Leadership & Policy Studies Dissertations
Despite the expansion of literature on Black women college presidents, there is an oversaturation of the struggles Black women experience once in the role that is rooted within the role of racism and sexism. This study focuses on understanding how Black joy influences Black women's aspirations to pursue university or college presidencies at historically white institutions (HWIs). The legacy of Black joy in Black communities is one of healing, resistance, and restoration. Yet, little is understood about how Black joy impacts Black women's experience in higher education. Black women’s journeys to the presidency are a unique exploration of their present-day …
