Problem children present a major concern in the field of education. Because they are not adjusting to the socially-acceptable behavior norms of their environment, they disrupt their own progress and the learning efforts of their classmates.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of school counselors involving problem children in a middle school with their teacher and parent(s) in a contractual agreement. This contractual agreement was based upon Glasser's Reality Therapy and tailored to the individual problem child's own needs, in order to help him to improve his behavior and achievement.

This study considered a scale of social functioning as one measure toward understanding the problem of attrition at a selected Junior college. It was concerned with the use of the Heinler Scale of Social Functioning (SSF) as an aid to the counseling function. The purpose of the study was to use this scale to neasure life satisfactions and frustrations of a stratified sampling of students who left the junior college before the end of their first quarter and students who per- sisted and registered for the second quarter. The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate the effects of two different group counseling techniques on the academic achievement and self-concept of elementary school Mexican-American pupils. Also included in the study were the results of a pilot study conducted with Mexican-American pupils to compare the Semantic Differential Technique and the Self-Esteem Inventory in the measurement of self-concept.

It was the purpose of this research project to develop a method which could be used by college and university personnel to obtain students' perceptions of and convictions concerning advising programs on their campuses. Included in the procedure was a demonstration of how it can be determined where the greatest needs are and whether or not there are any significant differences in the perceptions of, or expressed needs for, counseling and advising by different categories of students within the school.
