Background: Adults with metastatic cancer frequently report anxiety and depression symptoms, which may impact health behaviors such as advance care planning (ACP).
Objective: The study leveraged acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), an evidence-based approach for reducing distress and improving health behaviors, and adapted it into a multimodal intervention (M-ACT) designed to address the psychosocial and ACP needs of anxious and depressed adults with metastatic cancer. The study evaluated M-ACT's acceptability, feasibility, and efficacy potential.
Design: The study was designed as a single-arm intervention development and pilot trial.

Online Engagement And Overall Performance: Tmfd 123: Clothing & Society Benchmark Portfolio – A Peer Review Of Teaching Portfolio, Claire Nicholas
UNL Faculty Course Portfolios
This benchmark course portfolio examines TMFD 123: Clothing & Society, a large enrollment, online delivery course offered in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In addition to detailed discussion of existing course materials, activities, and assessment tools, the portfolio focuses on the issue of student engagement and peer-to-peer interaction. It also tracks the impact of the introduction of a Yellowdig discussion forum assignment in an effort to boost engagement, create a sense of community, and foster connections between course materials and concepts and students’ everyday lives. The latter objective intersects with several of …
Appreciative Inquiry Impact On University Instructor's Nonverbal Immediacy, Aviva Gordon
Appreciative Inquiry Impact On University Instructor's Nonverbal Immediacy, Aviva Gordon
Wayne State University Dissertations
The impact of Appreciative Inquiry on university instructor’s Nonverbal Immediacy was explored. Nonverbal Immediacy has been investigated extensively through the perception of students and rarely used as an instructional strategy or to enhance Appreciative Inquiry. Self-determination Theory informed this research with the constructs competence, relatedness, and autonomy inherent in Nonverbal Immediacy and Appreciative Inquiry. An adapted instrument collected data from Communication courses, twice during one semester. The Coronavirus interrupted research, so the second survey was modified for online. The research question could not be answered conclusively. However, both instruments were found reliable, valid and replicable. The recent online nonverbal immediacy …
How High School Teachers In Guam Use Facebook For Instructional Purposes To Promote Interactions, Sanjay Sharma
How High School Teachers In Guam Use Facebook For Instructional Purposes To Promote Interactions, Sanjay Sharma
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite the popularity of Facebook amongst students and teachers for personal use, the problem is a lack of understanding of how high school teachers use Facebook for instructional purposes to promote learner-learner and learner-instructor interactions. Focusing on how and why some high school teachers incorporate Facebook in their teaching practice may broaden the range of teachers' instructional tools to use Facebook. The purpose of this case study was to explore the mastery experiences of how and why high school teachers decide to use Facebook activities for instruction. Vygotsky's social constructivism theory and Bandura's self-efficacy form the conceptual framework for types …
The Implementation Of Math Technology Supplemental Programs For Elementary Students, Carolyn Sue Torres
The Implementation Of Math Technology Supplemental Programs For Elementary Students, Carolyn Sue Torres
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Many studies have focused on using technological devices in elementary education; however, more research is needed on the implementation of technology to improve student learning in math. The problem addressed in this study was the lack of information about how teachers implemented and used the new math software programs, Imagine Math and Reflex in their instruction and their perspectives on differences the programs made in students' math learning. The Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) served as the conceptual framework for this study. The purpose of the study was to understand how teachers are using the new math software programs and …
Online Textbook Use And Online Student Success Rates In Community College, Diane M. Hilbert
Online Textbook Use And Online Student Success Rates In Community College, Diane M. Hilbert
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Online student success rates in community colleges have continued to fall below student success rates for their on-campus counterparts. The purpose of this causal-comparative quantitative study was to determine the difference in student success between students who used a hardcopy textbook for an online U.S. history course and students who used an online textbook at an urban community college in Texas while also investigating the influence of gender and ethnicity. Secondary data collected included final course grades from the course over a 10-year period with 9,115 students. The theoretical foundation focused on the deliberate construction of online course design and …

Pilot Evaluation Of The Stop, Breathe & Think Mindfulness App For Student Clients On A College Counseling Center Waitlist, Michael E. Levin, Elizabeth T. Hicks, Jennifer Krafft
Psychology Faculty Publications
Objectives: College counseling centers face significant challenges meeting the mental health needs of their students and waitlists are common. Mobile apps offer a promising solution to increase access to resources while students wait for services. Methods: This pilot randomized controlled trial evaluated the feasibility and acceptability of a publicly available mindfulness app. Students on a counseling center waitlist (n=23) were randomized to use the app or not, with assessments completed over four weeks. Results: Recruitment over three semesters was slow, leading to an underpowered trial. Participants reported high satisfaction and moderate app usage. Very preliminary support was found for potential …

Establishing Teaching Presence In Higher Education Online Mathematics Courses: A Phenomenological Study, Deltrye Eagle Holt
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe, based on the teaching presence component of the Community of Inquiry (CoI) theoretical framework, the lived experiences of mathematics instructors while establishing teaching presence in online higher education mathematics courses. Teaching presence, which is one of the three core elements of the community of inquiry (CoI) framework, is necessary for achieving learning outcomes and student satisfaction. The three main research questions were: 1. How do mathematics instructors establish teaching presence in online higher education mathematics courses? 2. How do mathematics instructors establish teaching presence in face-to-face higher education mathematics courses? 3. …
An Analysis Of Online Faculty Training Practices In The Illinois Community College System, Melissa Andrews
An Analysis Of Online Faculty Training Practices In The Illinois Community College System, Melissa Andrews
Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations
This study investigated existing training practices for online faculty and instructors in the Illinois community college system. From 2004 to 2014, higher education showed a 60% increase in online enrollment, with 1.9 million students enrolled nationally in online courses at public two-year institutions. In the state of Illinois, public two-year institutions enrolled 32.9% of all distance education courses . As online learning continues to alter the educational landscape, new issues confront instructors and students. Preparing faculty to teach online is an important component for student success in online programs but professional development for online instructors varies in different universities.
