Reading Together: A Successful Reading Fluency Internvetion, Chase Young, Kathleen A. J. Mohr, Timothy Rasinkski

The article describes a reading fluency intervention called Reading Together that combines the method of repeated readings (Samuels, 1979) and the Neurological Impress Method (Heckelman, 1969). Sixteen volunteers from various backgrounds were recruited and trained to deliver the Reading Together intervention to struggling readers in third through fifth grade. The differences on the outcome measures between the treatment (n = 29) and comparison (n = 23) were statistically significant. Thus, students in the treatment demonstrated increased reading expression, reading rate, and overall reading scores. Results suggest that Reading Together is a feasible method of increasing students’ reading proficiency and can …

This policy brief explores how career and technical education is being approached in Arkansas and elsewhere. New career and college readiness initiatives have been undertaken in a variety of settings, including the academy model that is highlighted in this brief. Additionally, the brief will explore career readiness from an international and national perspective and discuss the rationale for why career readiness matters for a considerable number of students in the public schools and workforce development programs across Arkansas.

This article describes the process of cultural adaptation at the start of the implementation of the Parent Management Training intervention-Oregon model (PMTO) in Mexico City. The implementation process was guided by the model, and the cultural adaptation of PMTO was theoretically guided by the cultural adaptation process (CAP) model. During the process of the adaptation, we uncovered the potential for the CAP to be embedded in the implementation process, taking into account broader training and economic challenges and opportunities. Macau, one of the smallest territories in Asia with a population of only 0.6 million istransforming its higher education system unobtrusively after its sovereignty was returned to China in1999. The Basic Law states that Macau is authorised to exercise a high degree of autonomy until at least 2049. In recent years, Macau’s higher education system has undergone many significant changes with a speed and pattern never seen before in any other small territories in the world. Thisdevelopment has generated a significant amount of new human and social capital for Macau andenhanced its overall competitiveness in the region.

Instruction librarians are all too familiar with well-intentioned research papers and assignments that reduce information literacy to a simplistic checklist (must include 4 peer-reviewed sources) or set of skills (use interlibrary loan, cite materials properly). When introducing and implementing a new technology for science teachers within a school district, we must consider not only the end users but also the roles and influence district personnel have on the eventual appropriation of that technology. School districts are, by their nature, complex systems with multiple individuals at different levels in the organization who are involved in supporting and providing instruction. Varying levels of support for new technologies between district coordinators and teachers can sometimes lead to counterintuitive outcomes.
