Sources for the book include minutes from the Board of Trustees meetings, letters, university yearbooks (the Aurora), the school's newspaper (the Glimmerglass), several obituaries in newspapers, and funeral programs. The book shows the struggles the university had in its early years to keep presidents as well as its rapid growth within recent years. The last few pages include collages of photos taken during various stages of several of the presidents' lives.

Peter J. Finley Sr. was born an only child to parents John J. Finley and Margaret Francis Dunn in 1931, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He grew up in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia. Peter attended St. Francis Xavier School for grade school, La Salle Prep School afterwards—located at 1240 North Broad Street at the time—and La Salle College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1953. Peter’s connection to La Salle began early in his childhood; his father, John J. Finley, was in the College’s graduating class of 1924. Peter earned a master’s degree at the College …

Four international alumni find a common language between their RISD education and their own rich, evolving cultures. Ng'endo Mukii 05 FAV of Kenya, Anjali Mody 09 ID of India, and architecture/design team Eduardo Sucre BArch 01 and Karina (Schrappe) Sucre BArch 00 of Brazil returned to their native countries to find the cross-cultural lessons and adaptability learned at RISD have proven critical to their success back home.
