He went to university for mathematics and musicology but did not finish those studies. In the late 1970s he took up saxophone and started to compose music. A few years later he discovered his potential as a vocal performer, at first in reciting poetry and later on in improvisations and his own compositions. The musical, set in 1959 at fictional Rydell High School (loosely based on William Howard Taft Schooltll), follows ten working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of love. This three-year REU site program at the University of Maine will engage eight undergraduates per year in hands-on research experiences in sensor science and engineering. The REU program will be integrated with the PIs' Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12) and Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) programs. REU participants will have the opportunity to interact with faculty research mentors, graduate students, post-docs, technicians, visiting scientists, and middle and high school teachers. The University of Maine System (UMS) Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Task Force makes the following slightly revised recommendations to the University of Maine System Credit Transfer Project Steering Committee and the University of Maine System Chief Academic Officers.
