The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of Direct Instruction (DI) flashcard procedure, combined with strategies and rewards on multiplication fact accuracy of two elementary school-age students. A single subject replication design across three and four sets of multiplication facts was used to evaluate outcomes. The results indicated improvement in math performance for each participant. Follow-up data indicated maintenance of treatment effects over time. Finally, pre and posttest outcomes found generalization to correct writing of math facts for each participant. The benefits of employing DI flashcards in a resource room or home were discussed.

The Impact Of Educational Programs And Support Structures On Success In The Classroom For College Students With Learning Disabilities, Kendra Wynne Scott

This research explores and examines 1) the effectiveness of university sponsored educational strategies (formal and informal) for students with learning disabilities and 2) how individuals react to and manage their learning disability. This study is a mixed- methods design and uses surveys and interviews to collect data. Participants are college students registered with the Office of Disability Services (ODS) for academic assistance at a four-year liberal Southeastern mid-sized university. Results showed that when students’ utilized university sponsored educational strategies, such as assistive technology, note-taking skills, and other accommodations their self-efficacy and confidence increased in relation to personal classroom achievements. Assessment personnel are those individuals who work in the capacity of evaluation of students with disabilities, including, but not limited to, educational diagnosticians, educational examiners, psychometrists, and instructional specialists. These professionals are responsible for identifying strengths and weaknesses and for providing teachers with evidence-based recommendations that can be implemented in the classroom to improve performance of students with learning deficits. This qualitative study examines 19 educational diagnosticians’ perceptions related to the barriers and supports that impacted their ability to provide evidence-based recommendations for students who are learning disabled. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a Direct Instruction (DI) flashcard system paired with a math racetrack to teach basic multiplication facts to two elementary students diagnosed with learning disabilities. The study was conducted in a resource room which served intermediate aged elementary students. The school was located in an urban school district in the Pacific Northwest. Targeted math facts were chosen based on the students’ pretest scores. The effects of the DI flashcard procedure were evaluated using a multiple baseline design across sets of problems. Clients with learning disabilities constitute a cultural group that has not been extensively studied. The professional literature has found that counselors have reported the need for additional training in working with clients with disabilities. This study explored counselors' beliefs and perceived knowledge regarding counseling clients with learning disabilities. Participants in this study were college counselors, mental health counselors, and school counselors who were members of the following professional counseling associations: the American College Counseling Association (ACCA), the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMCHA), and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). Previous studies demonstrate clear links between learning disabilities (LD) and criminal/delinquent behaviors, and between moral reasoning (MR) and criminal behaviors. The purpose of the current study was to examine the link between LD and MR. The study was conducted among 2 groups: learning-disabled delinquents (LDD), and non-delinquent learning disabled (NDLD). The research design included four phases and the research tools included observations, psycho-educational diagnoses, individual oral interviews based on Kohlberg’s Moral Judgment Interview (Colby et al. 1987) which aimed at determining the level of MR of the participants, and content analysis. There seems to be an ongoing controversy among researchers with regard to the existence of LD in foreign language (FLLD). It appears that most researchers favor the analogy of FLLD to obesity rather than to measles as both LD and obesity are conditions which reside on a continuum. The study examined EFL student-teachers' perceptions of FL learning problems with regard to the analogy to obesity and to measles from previous studies. This study investigates the effects of self-regulated strategy development (Harris, Graham, & Mason, 2009) for cognitive strategy instruction in persuasive writing (POW+TREE) using a synchronous online learning environment for special education students. Participants are four adolescent students with learning disabilities (LD) with low achievement in writing. One undergraduate research assistant delivered instruction using a synchronous online platform (e.g., Adobe Connect) in conjunction with collaborative writing software (e.g., Google Docs word processing).
