Assessing Student Exposure To And Use Of Computer Technologies Through An Examination Of Course Syllabi, Michael B. Madson, Timothy P. Melchert, Joan Whipp

College of Education Faculty Research and Publications

A syllabus analysis instrument was developed to assist program evaluators, administrators and faculty in the identification of skills that students use as they complete their college coursework. While this instrument can be tailored for use with a variety of learning domains, we used it to assess students' use of and exposure to computer technology skills. The reliability and validity of the instrument was examined through an analysis of 88 syllabi from courses within the teacher education program and the core curriculum at a private Midwest US university. Job Satisfaction And Organizational Commitment Among Faculty At Taiwan's Higher Education Institutions, Yu-Ching Huang

Student Work

The purpose of the study was to determine faculty members' level of job satisfaction and organizational commitment and to determine the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Two types of satisfaction were surveyed: intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Three types of commitment were surveyed: affective, normative, and continuance commitment. This study was delimited to faculty members at five institutes of technology in the Mid-Taiwan area.

The article argues that the principles upon which academic freedom is founded must be elaborated and modified in ways that are relevant to the responsibilities and circumstances of today's universities. The article elucidates the UC's new statement on academic freedom, which honors the long history and tradition of the principles of academic freedom, but also breaks new ground in that it explicitly recognizes the means of maintaining those freedoms. The purpose of the study was to develop a model faculty handbook to promote a shared vision and a collaborative school culture. To accomplish this purpose, a review of related literature was conducted. Related information and materials from selected sources were obtained and analyzed. Additionally, specific information and forms were adapted and developed to serve an elementary faculty.
