Induction Of Beginning Teachers Through Mentoring, Leanne M. Junko Jan 1991

Induction Of Beginning Teachers Through Mentoring, Leanne M. Junko

Graduate Research Papers

Statistics indicate that approximately fifteen percent of all new teachers will leave the profession after their first year of teaching, thirty percent during the first two years, and forty to fifty percent will abandon teaching altogether during the first seven years. Those high in academic skills are bailing out and choosing other careers at alarming rates (Emrick, 1989; Henry, 1988; Schlechty & Vance, 1983). The accomplishments and commitments of many of the teachers who remain in the profession tend to deteriorate after the initial years of survival (Rosenholtz, 1989). To prevent this trend from continuing, programs must be designed to …

Influences Associated With The Underrepresentation Of Women In Administrative Positions In Education, Judy S. Bohrofen

Graduate Research Papers

Women are greatly underrepresented in administrative positions at all levels of education. In spite of all the efforts that have been made to recruit women into, and to encourage women to seek, traditionally male-dominated careers, the statistics continue to be discouraging. Nationally, five percent of school superintendents are women, a 1989 National School Boards Association survey found. Only 10 percent of high school principals are women, 17 percent of junior high and middle school principals are women, and 32 percent of elementary school principals are women (Lanter, 1989). A September 30, 1990 fiscal year report of Iowa public universities showed …

Using Cooperative Learning To Meet The Diverse Needs Of The Mainstreamed Classroom, Keith W. Feldmann Jan 1991

Using Cooperative Learning To Meet The Diverse Needs Of The Mainstreamed Classroom, Keith W. Feldmann

Graduate Research Papers

Considerable debate among educators has centered on what kinds of academic structures can best accommodate mildly academically handicapped students, considering their particular needs in terms of self esteem, academic progress, and interpersonal relationships with nonhandicapped students. This paper examines the effects of mainstreaming compared to separate, special classes for academically handicapped students and address the question of what kinds of regular class structures can best provide for the needs of mainstreamed mildly academically handicapped students, while, at the same time, meeting the needs of normal and high ability students. In particular, this paper will examine how one structure, cooperative learning, …

The Relationship Of Codependence To Career Choice, Karen Hinderliter Barnett

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

The purpose of this study was to investigate the possible correlation between codependency and career choice. For this reason, this study focused on four groups of undergraduate students: nursing students, psychology students, and social work majors, as the "helping profession" students, and students majoring in business-related fields. The study was also designed to provide empirical evidence to conplement the descriptive studies which have been the main source of information available up to the present time.;Subjects were drawn from students attending Christopher …

The Influence Of The Transition Plan In Developing Communication Programs, Yuki Tanaka

Dissertations and Theses

The transition of students with moderate to severe handicaps from school to work and adult life has become a principal concern of special education over the last decade. Despite of these attentions, there has been little attention to the need for including plans for the student's communication needs in his or her Transition Plan. Thus, it is important to study the relationship between the inclusion of a student's communication needs in his or her Transition Plan and the effectiveness of communication programs. The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between the Transition Plan and the effectiveness of …

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

ANN has been developed on MS-DOS computers primarily for educational uses. Currently, it consists of six simulation programs. ANN1 is a very simple neural net which shows how a network learns by adjusting its connection weights. ANN2 is a single processing element neural net, in which the user trains the network manually by adjusting the connection weights and the threshold value. ANN3 is a manually trained simple two layered network. It demonstrates the power of hidden neurons. ANN4is a Bidirectional Associative Memory network. ANN5 is a Perceptron that learns from examples. ANN6 is a network based on the backpropagation of …
