The Development Of A Course Of Study In Consumer Science For The Senior High School Of Sturgis, Michigan, Harold R. Bowdish
Masters Theses
Chapter I
Introduction
Statement of the Problem. To introduce a phase of education designed to help every individual to live healthfully and comfortably, to buy goods and services wisely, and to obtain the greatest use of those goods and services is a tremendous undertaking. Science teachers are in an excellent position to contribute better understanding of the place of the consumer in our social system. It seems logical that a textbook in this field cannot be written which will serve every community with the same degree of effectiveness because the texts are written by authors who are interested in establishing …

An Analytical Study Of The High School Athletic Associations, Roland H. Vanderbilt
Master's Theses
The specific problem of this thesis or investigation is An Analytical Study of High School Athletic Associations. The purpose is first to show the scope and points of similarity by a succession of graphs; and second to point out the individual differences, doing this by comparing them with the rules and regulations governing Kansas athletics. In other words, their likenesses and differences will be compared according to their variation from the rules given in the handbook of the Kansas State Activities Association.
The Types And Frequencies Of Arithmetical Errors Made By Bookkeeping Students In Ottawa And Craig Counties, Oklahoma, Ethel Hoard Alexander
The Types And Frequencies Of Arithmetical Errors Made By Bookkeeping Students In Ottawa And Craig Counties, Oklahoma, Ethel Hoard Alexander
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to determine the types and frequency of arithmetical errors made by bookkeeping students in order to determine whether problems in which certain errors occur need special emphasis and problems in which errors are less frequent would necessitate remedial instruction. There tests were made covering practically a year’s work in bookkeeping. These tests were administered to the bookkeeping students in seven different schools in Ottawa and Craig Counties in Oklahoma. The writer concludes that bookkeeping problems involving addition and subtraction demand more attention than others. Accuracy and neatness in recording numbers are also important and …

"Kentucky owed most of her remarkable intellectual development at an early age in her history, to the fact that at the close of the Revolutionary War in 1781 many of the most intellectual and cultivated of officers and soldiers in that war from the states of Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland - being unsettled in their homes and business by its great duration privations and calamities - sought new homes in the then richest land in the known world. Thus, the times and the country itself, the very life of hardship, self-denial, and self-dependence, combined to make a race …
The Application Of Certain Criteria Of Success To The Adult Education Courses In Box Elder County, Utah, 1938 To 1942, Inclusive, Mont Harmon
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This study is part of a larger project which is still in progress in Box Elder County, Utah. Mr. J. Wesley Norsley, chairman of the Central Sponsoring Committee, makes the following statement of its purpose.
The project described in this report is an educational experiment. It is intended as nothing more. The aggregate of Box Elder County is its laboratory; its people and their resources: the materials.
The experiment issues from realization that democracy, suddenly grown intensely important to Americans, is based in home and family, and that the vitality of this key institution is declining.
The success of the …

A Study Of The Status Of The School Newspaper In The Utah High Schools, Laurence W. Jenkins
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
It is not intended that this paper be an exhaustive study of journalism in the Utah high schools. It is intended that it open up the field and perhaps point the way for further study. Very, little has been done, for instance, in the history of high school journalism in Utah. Very little has been done in this study on the appraisal of papers; only the most general observations have been made. A great deal has depended on the judgment of advisers, and advisers, like all other human beings, differ in point of view and understanding.

An Evaluation Of Certain Tests In Predicting Mechanic Learner Achievement, Eldon Ernest Jacobsen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Demands for increased industrial and educational efficiency in modern times have necessitated more careful selection and guidance of personnel in preparation for and entrance into industrial activities. As a means to this end, there are being developed numerous tests designed to measure abilities and to aid in prediction of potential successes in various fields. This problem is intensified in the preparation of workers in war industries.
Early in World War II it became very apparent that air power would be a primary determinant in the outcome of the war. The United States, in order to achieve air superiority, inaugurated an …

The Second World War, often called the Global War, is largely a war of technocracy. The last few decades have seen many discoveries and inventions which, when used in war, have far reaching implications. To a relatively large extent the United States and the United Nations have left many of these discoveries in the theoretical state, thus allowing a large margin of advantage to the Axis Nations who have rather thoroughly exploited, for military purposes, new discoveries at their command. Since the two groups of nations have come to grips it means that survival demands extensive ramifications of all discoveries …
The Analysis, Evaluation, And Selection Of American History Textbooks For Senior High School Classroom Use, Fred A. Weiss
The Analysis, Evaluation, And Selection Of American History Textbooks For Senior High School Classroom Use, Fred A. Weiss
Masters Theses
Chapter I
The Purpose and Procedure of this Study
Introduction
American history has long held a well-established place in the curriculum of the senior high schools of the United States. In many schools every pupil is required to take American history in order to be eligible to graduate from high school. If American history is not included as a specific subject offered in the curriculum of a senior high school, then one may expect to find it incorporated into some other part of the curriculum, perhaps into a general social studies course.

A Science Syllabus For The Intermediate School Grades Especially Adapted For Rural Schools In California, Jacob A. Misfeldt
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The development of a well organized functional science program in the elementary grades is an urgent problem for curriculum builders. This is especially true in the upper grades. There has been much commendable work done in grades one to six in curriculum development and in textbook writing. However, the upper grades in the elementary school have not been so fortunate. Here is a vast field waiting for constructional development. It is hoped that this study is a step in the right direction.

Student Agricultural Work Experiences In San Joaquin County, With Particular Reference To The Work Experiences Of Students Of Stockton And Lodi Public Schools In The Summer Of 1942, Frank L. Nash Jr.
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
As early as February, 1942, fears of an agricultural labor shortage began to be expressed in California. The Pacific Southwest Area Committee of the Young Men’s Christian Association asserts in a statement of policy on Emergency Harvest Camps, “The California State Chamber of Commerce’s Central Coast Council’s Agricultural Committee points out that ‘the removal of enemy aliens from coastal areas, the absorption of migrant workers into defense industries, and increased government quotas for the production of many crops has created a serious agricultural problem.’ (News release, February 28, 1942).”
In San Joaquin County 5,000 Japanese were evacuated. Most of these …

Thrift, that homely, old-fashioned virtue, is the theme of the following thesis. Webster defines it as "care and wisdom in the management of one's resources." Now, in our national emergency, we find it becoming the mode, and likely to be valued more and more as America assumes her world responsibility. If we have trained to thrift in the necessities of life, we have reserve with which to bring into it also. Often, to save an object calls forth resourcefulness and creative ability. Witness the antimacassars of a day gone by, lovely webs of lace and linen, made by the lady …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The development of secondary education in Louisville is significant because this city (together with the City of Covington) took the lead in establishing high schools in Kentucky. Although the state legislature from early days encouraged county seminaries and private academies, it gave practically no attention to high schools until 1908. After the Civil War various cities established high schools. There were few county high schools until the last decade of the century (1890-1900). Fifty-nine Kentucky high schools were accredited by the State University in 1908, but there 1 were perhaps as many unaccredited (with two or three year curricula). The …
