The COVID-19 pandemic brought many challenges to the education field. Due to the enforced immediate transition from in-person to online teaching, teachers, policymakers, administrators, and students had difficulty adapting themselves. Nearly three years since the pandemic began, it is clear that English language teachers have improved their digital literacy skills to sustain effective teaching. However, more than digital literacy skills are required to build community in the online learning environment. Research has shown that students who are given social and emotional tools to work with in their school day are better able to learn in all subject areas (Kriete & Davis, 2014). Responsive Classroom offers a program which includes Morning Meeting as an opportunity to teach social and emotional tools. This is a qualitative research project that utilized case study with action based research. This research revealed that Morning Meetings impacted classwork productivity because they helped to identify and meet students’ social and emotional needs, which created a sense of belonging and connection. There is urgency for teacher educators to instruct preservice teachers in the core tenants of social justice education. The Honors College Participation Program is a program that was implemented within the Bowling Green State University Honors College. The purpose of this program was to connect students to honors faculty and staff, motivate students to attend events and serve in leadership positions, and encourage a sense of community within the Honors College. The program had a set of points assigned to different activities and as students would attend events and complete activities they were awarded points.
