The preparation of the curricula for the high schools and colleges of the State of Kansas has been an interesting development of the ideas of the schools and the legislative leaders. The Curve Of Forgetting For Substance Material, Leslie J. Briggs
The Curve Of Forgetting For Substance Material, Leslie J. Briggs
Master's Theses
The purpose of this paper is to describe the method and analyze the results of an experiment on substance memory. The term "substance memory,” as used in the present study, refers to the retention of general ideas derived from meaningful reading material in which the facts presented require some generalization and abstraction of meaning on the part of the reader. This type of memory is to be contrasted with "factual," or "verbatim" memory, in which the task is to retain specific, detailed facts stated in the reading material, and with rote memory, which involves the memory for illogical, disassociated, discrete …

A Critical Analysis Of Report Cards Used In New Mexico, John Robert Grove
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Many of the ties that used to bind the home and school are gone. The home and the school no longer have the feeling of intimacy that prevailed between them two hundred years ago. In the early American schools it was possible for the teacher to know the parents of nearly every child in the school room. Since this possibility no longer exists in the same degree, some link must be evolved to connect both the home and the school; some method to take the place of meetings on the street or conversations after prayer meeting must be organized to …

Especially difficult has been the attempt to provide adequate educational opportunities for its Negro group, and although some progress has been made there is still too wide a discrepancy between what has been done and the minimum of what could be done with regard to the physical facilities, teaching personnel, and curricula content.
