The Relationship Between Teacher Verbal Feedback, Aptitude, And Academic Intrinsic Motivation, Ann Jenkins Wickwire

The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between academic intrinsic motivation and positive teacher verbal feedback, negative teacher verbal feedback, and student aptitude for academic work. The research questions evolved from the Cognitive Evaluation Theory of Edward Deci (Deci & Ryan, 1985) in which intrinsic motivation develops out of a sense of competence and self-determination. In that teacher verbal feedback to students provide messages about academic competence, it was hypothesized that positive verbal feedback would enhance intrinsic motivation and negative verbal feedback would be detrimental to intrinsic motivation.;The subjects for the study were 368 fourth and fifth …

The purpose of this study was to investigate a contemporary curricular phenomenon in freshman education: the freshman seminar. By means of a survey instrument mailed to all regionally accredited American colleges and universities enrolling over 100 students, this study investigated the nature and current numbers of freshman seminars with respect to the five most common forms of this course--the extended orientation seminar, the academic seminar with common content across sections, the academic seminar with content that varies by section, the professional seminar, and the basic study skills seminar.;Similarities and differences between seminar types were reported in terms of goals, content, …

The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers' planning through an analysis of objectives, strategies, and indicators of student achievement to answer six research questions. Problem. The purpose of this study was to conduct a content analysis of the attention to nine microcultural factors (race, ethnicity, language, gender, social class, religion, disability, age, and giftedness) in selected multicultural education college textbooks used in the U.S. to seek an answer to the following question: "Are there significant differences in attention to nine microcultural factors in selected editions of the same textbook?".;Methodology. Two textbooks were examined both qualitatively and quantitatively using topical and analytical categories to develop a display analysis outlining attention scores for microcultural factors in message units.
