WaYS is a long-term program to engage Wabanaki students (grades 6-12) through their cultural heritage and environmental legacy to encourage and promote persistence in sciences through college and into a career. Innovative and unique, WaYS engages students in a year-long multi pronged program through a one-week summer Earth Camp, year-long internships/mentorships for high school students; and year-long Traditional Ecological Knowledge programs through Teen Centers or tribal Boys/Girls Clubs. Critical for success, it provides each student with mentoring from both cultural knowledge-keepers and natural resource professionals.

Alumni Association
In January 2016, alumni, and current students from a variety of academic fields gathered at Buchanan Alumni House to swap questions and answers about the keys to landing that first job and career success. Billed as “Pros Who Know,” the event was a collaborative effort of the Alumni Association and UMaine’s Career Center.
The alumni panel share their experiences and insights on career search strategies; offered interview, resume, and cover letter tips; related stories from their own career paths; and reflected about things they wish they had known when entering the workforce. Coming Spruce Budworm Outbreak: Initial Risk Assessment And Preparation & Response Recommendations For Maine's Forestry Community, Cooperative Forestry Research Unit, University Of Maine, Maine Forest Products Council, Maine Forest Service
General University of Maine Publications
The Maine Spruce Budworm Task Force was formed in summer 2013 by the University of Maine’s Cooperative Forestry Research Unit (CFRU), Maine Forest Service (MFS), and Maine Forest Products Council (MFPC) to begin preparing for the next outbreak of the eastern spruce budworm.
The last SBW outbreak during the 1970s–80s grew quickly, killed millions of acres of spruce-fir stands, and cost the region’s economy many hundreds of millions of dollars. Although it is not possible to predict exactly when defoliation of balsam fir and spruce will begin, how severe the next outbreak will eventually become, or how long it will …

E-mail has generally been used as an informal means of communication. However, as it becomes increasingly popular in the job application process, students need to take time to think through the content of their e-mail and address the message that they might be sending to employers. An e-mail to an employer should never just say "see attached." The receiver may not even open the attachment.

Humanization Of Non-Violent Inmates Critical To Prison Reform, Kim Crowley
Social Justice: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
The United States prison system is in desperate need of reform. We are the world’s leading jailer, creating trends of mass incarceration, racial disparity and widespread prison overpopulation. The statistics surrounding U.S. criminal justice, specifically our national prison system, are dismal at best. Over 2 million U.S. citizens are currently in prison. State prisons, as a group, exceed their maximum nominal inmate capacity by 15 percent. Federal prisons exceed their capacity even more so by 36 percent.

If you’re a part of the thousands of people that gripe about the continuing political ads, relentless telephone calls, and debate analyses that clog up the daily news, some bad news awaits you: this election season is just getting started. By next week, people in Iowa and New Hampshire will cast the first votes of the 2016 presidential election cycle, creating a visual approximation on who may be the United States’ 45th president. This campaign process has been unique to say the least, particularly with the Republican nominees. For example, to many people’s surprise, political outsiders Donald Trump and Ben Carson …
