Promoting The Kent State Ashtabula Wine Program Using Digital Commons: Challenges And Opportunities, Amy Thomas
Digital Commons + Northern Ohio User Group
Lessons learned and challenges explored in building the Ohio wine collection. Working with local winemakers and proprietors, the Ohio Wine Producers Association, Ohio Grape Industries, and the Viticulture Enology Science and Technology Alliance program coordinators, KSUA wine program and library staff have developed a DC site that chronicles the growth and impact of the industry statewide from the late 1960's to the present through photos, letters, newsletters, and interviews.

This lesson was used for my seventh and eighth grade students to illustrate the difficulties in a life of a migrant worker. Our school changed our main fund raiser from selling World's Finest Chocolate to Fair Trade Chocolate over concerns of fair wages and conditions for the workers. This lesson, combined with a lesson from the parent volunteers on the business side, illustrated how unfair the conditions and pay were for migrant workers.

This presentation is a collaborative effort by two educators from the disciplines of art and history. The PowerPoint presentation documents the the cross curricular migration themed event that explored migration in Slavic Village, Ohio. Historical speakers and visits to historical sites engaged students throughout the event. Through oral history and the visual arts students engaged in project based learning.
