Grounded in Herzberg's two-factor theory, the purpose of this multiple case study was to explore leaders' communication strategies to motivate virtual team members to achieve project goals. The participants consisted of eight virtual team leaders in the northeastern United States who successfully implemented communication …

Newly Graduated Baccalaureate Nurses Critical-Thinking Development, Norberto Rosado

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

For the nursing profession, critical thinking is essential to provide safe and effectivepatient care. While the development of critical thinking skills is a desired outcome for newly graduated baccalaureate nurses, many lack the ability to make critical decisions. The absence of critical thinking among newly graduated nurses may be related to a lack of exposure to the clinical environment during their academic experience. This study explored how critical thinking processes can be affected by different approaches to baccalaureate clinical nursing education in Puerto Rico. A descriptive qualitative approach was used to understand the perceptions of newly graduated baccalaureate nurses regarding …

The Relationship Between Kindergarten To Grade 8 Principals’ Epistemological Beliefs And School Success, Leland Stuart Sanford

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Although current research links teacher effectiveness and student success to epistemological beliefs, little is known about how those beliefs influence principal leadership and school success. The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which epistemological beliefs of K-8 principals predict school success in a large U.S. metropolitan area (LMA). The theoretical framework was Perry’s theory of epistemological development and Schommer-Aikin’s theory of personal epistemology. In this quantitative correlational study, epistemological beliefs of K-8 principals were measured with the Schommer-Aikins Epistemological Belief Inventory and school success with School Quality Rating Policy (SQRP). The study was guided by Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory. …

Twice-Exceptional Childhood Experiences Contributing To Imposter Syndrome In Post-Secondary Faculty, Joy Gehringer Shytle Jan 2022

Twice-Exceptional Childhood Experiences Contributing To Imposter Syndrome In Post-Secondary Faculty, Joy Gehringer Shytle

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractThis qualitative study involved exploring the relationship between imposter syndrome in post-secondary faculty and their twice exceptional (2e) childhood experiences. 2e is defined as students who are identified as academically gifted but also have a disability. Lack of accurate identification and accommodations for 2e students can lead to long-lasting mental health struggles, underperformance in academic environments, and low self-esteem. As 2e individuals become professionals, identity developed in grade school may contribute to feelings of imposter syndrome, causing significant performance and mental health struggles. Erikson’s psychosocial identity theory was used as a theoretical framework to understand how these experiences impact identity …

Bmi Screening Tool To Identify Elementary School Children At Risk For Obesity, Talia S. Thompson-Jones

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Obesity is a public health epidemic and is as relevant in the pediatric population as it is in adults. The purpose of this DNP project was to develop a clinical practice guideline (CPG) that would use existing evidence to support the development of body mass index (BMI) screening in primary schools for the early detection of childhood obesity. Globally, more than 41 million children were obese or overweight by 2018. Due to incidence rates, developing an effective strategy to address childhood obesity is critical. The practice-focused question asked whether the evidence supported the development of a CPG for implementing BMI …

School Counselors’ Lived Experiences Working With Northeastern Urban Minority High School Students, Lisette Ann Velez Jan 2022

School Counselors’ Lived Experiences Working With Northeastern Urban Minority High School Students, Lisette Ann Velez

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Professional school counselors employed in low-income education communities have a large, diverse student population to service. Researchers have indicated that urban minority youth present more challenges in school than affluent students due to economic constraints and other related factors. School counseling members apply different skills or techniques mastered from their graduate and professional training regardless of existing inequalities. School counselors are ethically obligated to help minors attain academic success, social-emotional development, and postsecondary goals. The dearth of literature warrants more qualitative research studies to explore further the phenomenon of school counselors working in underprivileged neighborhoods. Husserl’s transcendental phenomenological framework provided …
