The purpose of this study is to find and analyze data that can help schools create websites that are more useful for their students, staff, and community. There is a need in the educational community to have a blueprint for an educational tool (website), that allows students, parents, and school officials the opportunity to quickly and decisively share important information in an arena available to all and available 24 hours a day. It was completed by comparing the current websites of all the high schools in Riverside County, California.

The objective of the project was to develop an online educational technology tool based on research from multiple disciplines to improve effective communication between students, counselors, teachers, parents, and school staff. The website developed for the project aims to increase the involvement of parents in their child's academic progress. The project also includes discussions concerning the website's field testing at a middle school in Rosemead, California, its evaluation through participant surveys, and final revision. The field test participant instructions, survey questions, and a computer disc of the website accompanies the project.

This project describes the inception and development of a high school web site along with subsequent implementation issues, limitation, benefits, and recommendations visual design and learning principles and the history of hypermedia are also discussed, and a model is tendered for other schools to follow when constructing a web site.
