The Effect Of Two Athletic Training Programs On Aerobic Capacity, Anaerobic Capacity, Reaction Time, And Percent Body Fat, Paul W. Petersen
Student Work
It is perhaps obvious that athletic teams, such as basketball and wrestling, use different conditioning programs during the regular season of competition because of the nature of their sports. Although many coaches initiate particular programs and use them year after year, rarely do they have any definite measurements concerning the effects of the program on their athletes other than a win-loss record. To better understand the conditioning that takes place in various sports, in this study, several parameters of fitness were calculated-using the basketball and wrestling teams at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The measurements will indicate the change …

The Effects Of Values-Clarification Strategies On School Attitudes In Seventh Grade English, James C. Gaffney
Student Work
Educational systems are constantly faced with the question "What should students be taught?" Traditionally, the answer has been skills and concepts in basic subject areas used most often in life. Consequently, curricula center around facts about these subject areas, skills used by people in these areas, and concepts on which the subjects are based. New ways of presenting facts, skills, and concepts are continually being explored in the hope that students will internalize and apply them when the need arises. Student and parent involvement in the learning process, individualized instruction, high interest learning media, and various groupings of students in …

A Study Of Individualized Foreign Language Programs, Dorothy Schultz
Student Work
In recent years, individualization of instruction has been considered a major innovation in the field of education. Many schools have adopted, and others are in the process of adopting, such programs. Much has been written on the subject relative to the field of foreign languages. However, there seems to b a lack of specific information concerning the implementation and the effectiveness, as perceived by teachers, of such programs. Hopefully, such information will be useful for educators who may be considering individualization of foreign language learning.
The Relation Of Visual Fixation And Pursuit To Posture In Four Month Infants, Nancy M. Fieber
The Relation Of Visual Fixation And Pursuit To Posture In Four Month Infants, Nancy M. Fieber
Student Work
The frozen posture of a young child as he visually attends to something of interest, or the very young infantTs wide open eyes and mouth as he fixes on a stimulus, illustrate dramatically the close relationship between the visual system and the total action system. The two appear to be inseparable and interdependent.
When vision is impaired, control of posture may be impaired as evidenced by the typical delay in head righting in prone and all-fours postures of the blind infant. (Gesell and Amatruda, 1941; Gesell et al, 1949) In other children with severe visual impairment a peculiar head posture …

An Experimental Study Of The Impact Of Clinical Psychodiagnosis, Diagnostic Concept And Dogmatism On The Perception Of Psychopathology., Jane Ellen Stilwell Smith
Student Work
The subject of psychiatric diagnosis and the ramifications of a person being labeled as "mentally ill" has attracted increased attention in the past decade. Personal testimony from psychiatric patients about the difficulty in securing employment, returning to familiar abodes, and re-entering a scholastic environment because of rejection by "normal" society, has been documented in confidential case files, witnessed by friends and relatives, and published for lay consumption (Rubin, 1960; Salinger, 1951; and Green, 1964). Other literature has been devoted to the apparently negative psychological aspects of being an in-patient in a mental institution (Caudwill, 1958; Goffman, 1961; and Gordon, 1971). …

A Curriculum Guide For Senior High School Physical Education In The Council Bluffs Community School District, Conrad W. Rasmussen
Student Work
It is the intention of this physical education curriculum guide to provide a meaningful program for the senior high students of the Council Bluffs Community High Schools.
Each teacher should have the initiative and imagination to develop individual lesson plans and teaching methods. However, it has become obvious that a need for an established course outline is necessary to provide a maximum program in Physical Education for the Council Bluffs High School student. We want to eliminate the possibility that our physical education program could be controlled by individual strengths or weaknesses. It is imperative that we develop a program …

Christian Education In Protestant Primary Schools In Belgian Congo, Allan Wiebe
Student Work
The term "religious education", although traditionally referring to the teaching ministry of the Christian church, has now become so general as to include practically all religions that are propagated through instruction including Jewish, Mohammedan, Hindu and most other non-Christian religions, as well as Christian. Consequently, a trend has recently developed in the direction of the use of the more exclusive term "Christian education" although the two terms are used interchangeably in many Christian circles.
In this study the term "Christian education" is preferred and refers to the process by which individuals are confronted with and controlled by the Christian gospel. …

The Suitability Of The Goodenough Draw A Man Test For Use In The Chagga Schools Of Tanganyika, Allan J. Gottneid
Student Work
The principal and staff of the Marangu Teacher Training Center, Tanganyikaf last Africa, have experienced a need for instruments of measurement suitable for studying the psychology of African school children. Several obstacles have effectively prevented the finding of, or the development of such measures. Among these obstacles are limitation of financial resources, limitation of time to devote to research, and limitation of personnel qualified to undertake such research as would be necessary. Another obstacle is more deeply rooted; it is the African himself. In Tanganyika alone, there are nearly 120 tribes, each with its own language and cultural heritage. A …
A Study Of The Relationship Between The Adjustment Of Student Nurses To The School If Nursing And Their Scores On The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, The Johnson Temperament Analysis, And The Problem Check List Form For School Of Nursing, Charlotte Rees Schultz
Student Work
Although all prospective student nurses applying to the Nebraska Methodist Hospital School of Nursing are required to take the Johnson Temperament Analysis, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, and to check the Problem Check List Form for School of Nursing, no actual value of the scores had been established. It appeared as though deviations above and below the fiftieth percentile on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory might be predictive of adjustment problems in nursing students. On the Johnson Temperament Analysis it seemed as though a high score on the Nervous-Composed and Aggressive-Submissive traits was important in predicting the …
