This study was made for the purpose of comparing the intelligence, scholastic achievement, retardtion , educational training after the elementary school, type of employment and marital status of two groups of individals who attended the George B. Loomis School of the Public Schools of Indianapolis, Indiana in the ten-year period, 1931 to 1941. The members of one group lived in an institution under the direction of a family welfare organization while the members of group two lived in natural homes. Many from both groups are adults now.

To this has been added a smaller amount of information gathered by personal interview with reliable individuals; principally teachers, who have been in the teaching service for many years and who were connected with the events described. Popular opinion is divided into two general groups as to the value of basketball activities, one group holding that training in basketball will transfer to actual life situations, while the other contends that it is a waste of time to spend hours in practicing and in trips which necessitate absence from academic work. In general, this study seeks to give some evidence on this question, through an examination of the subsequent careers or the boys who were basketball players in Frankfort High School during the years from 1919-1940.

The purpose of this study is to investigae the relationship between Latin and French, between Latin and Spanish, and to evaluate the assumption of many language teachers that high school pupuls who have had one year of Latin tended, on the whole, because of that fact, to do better academic work in Franch and Spanish as measured in terms of marks received, than did pupils who had not studied Latin.

The individual who lacks the use of his voice as a musical instrument lacks the natural, fundamental medium of musical expression. Not only does he lack the means for the closest and most direct relationship with music, but also there is a serious danger that, as a result, his whole range of musical appreciation will be impaired and finally obliterated. This is likely to occur because he does not have at his command and under his control this power which he so definitely needs. Children who are thus handicapped are often designated by the use of the word monotone.

The entire subject--military training in the secondary schools--is at present highly controversial. Its educational value has been a matter of debate since the earliest appearance of such training in the college curriculum over a century ago. This study was made of the graduates of a semi-public school located on the grounds at the Indiana Masonic Home at Franklin, Indiana. Almost all of the graduates are obliged to work for their living immediately after graduation and the present curriculum was arranged to meet this need. This study was made to determine if the program has been functioning and, if not, to find out what changes should be made to make it fulfill the needed requirements.
