Indeed, some sociologist believer that the satisfactory solution of this problem has often aided man in the solution of his other problems.

Although the term "thermal environment" is a comparatively recent addition to the vocabulary of school administrators and teachers, the control of temperature, humidity, cleanliness, and movement of air, aspects …

One of these early ordinances written in 205 B.C. state that women were forbidden to drive vehicles within the city of Rome. During the rule of Julius Caesar congested traffic conditions necessitated a regulation that vehicles could not enter the city during business hours and in 50 B.C. a Roman law was passed against "trucking."

Traffic regulations changed little …

One marked shift in appraisal programs during the past few years has been directed towards assessing performance on the job rather than on the personal characteristics of those being rated. Despite the trend, however, there remains a seemingly innate proclivity among raters to project their views of ratees to encompass not only what is observed, but also the etiology and mode of behavior.

For example, how would a principal go about dealing with a parent whose child has been suspended from school for disciplinary reasons? How can we know, beforehand, whether an individual will be a good or a poor administrator? Industry has developed time and motion studies for …

Program Analysis Study Of Selected Freshmen Student At Appalachian State Teachers College, Louis Leroy Rogers

Doctoral Dissertations

Introduction: College dropouts represent an alarming waste of competent manpower. Personal problems of students may be a factor in the dropout situation, and may merit the attention of college staffs. College administrators are realizing that the American student is not the same as a college student of a century ago. The present day college student is an entirely different type, living in a changing and different world. The former concept of the purpose of higher education is not suitable. It emphasized the training of mental faculties. The newer concept of education is concerned with the whole individual.

Behavioral Patterns Of Selected Superintendents During The Process Of Public School Desegregation, Sam Harris Ingram Jun 1959

Behavioral Patterns Of Selected Superintendents During The Process Of Public School Desegregation, Sam Harris Ingram

Doctoral Dissertations

Recommendations: The general conclusions of this study suggest that a great deal more attention should be given to the effect the actions of public school superintendents have upon the success or lack of success of desegregation. It is also believed that more research should be directed toward the factors which seem to have a definite effect upon the superintendent's action during the process of public school desegregation. Perhaps more intensive research in a single school system, where this is possible, would shed additional light upon the action of the superintendent and the causes of this action. The behavioral patterns which …

A Theoretical Basis For Industrial Arts In The Public Schools, Darrell Dewitt Simons

Doctoral Dissertations

Summary: The purpose of this study was to reduce some of the confusion that appeared to exist in the areas of industrial arts. It was believed that some of the confusion may be contributed to traditional forces, but many of the difficulties stem from confusion within the more basic elements surrounding the nature of man and the nature of society. If an understanding can be conveyed within this realm, much of the existing confusion could be eliminated.

The elements that seem to be more pertinent to the nature of man and education were discussed in Chapter III. Man and his …

Local community responsibility for support of and the desire for local control of education were early recognized in New England and spread across the Midwest to the West Coast as the country was settled. With the increasing shortage of teachers and pressures for more competent teachers, the question of more pay to attract trained personnel appears greatest upon the horizon.
