Community Health Nursing And The Spiritual Domain: Clinical Rotations In Faith-Based Residential Communities For Prelicensure Nursing Students, Paulette D. Slowinski, Amy Sweeney Dec 2025

Community Health Nursing And The Spiritual Domain: Clinical Rotations In Faith-Based Residential Communities For Prelicensure Nursing Students, Paulette D. Slowinski, Amy Sweeney

International Journal of Faith Community Nursing

Contextualized spiritual education in undergraduate nursing programs is often limited. Community-based clinical rotations present an opportunity to introduce nursing students to professional practice in faith-based communities. Junior and senior undergraduate nursing students from a state university worked with the wellness nurses at a residential community for older adults funded by the county Catholic diocese. In this unique environment, students participated in nursing care focusing on health promotion and disease prevention and management. This learning opportunity allowed students to have meaningful interactions with residents while gaining insight into faith-based nursing practice and the value of spiritually focused care for vulnerable populations.

The Effects Of Kanpu Masatsu On Sleep Quality And Fatigue Among Older Adults, Aidan Miranda, Yessica Luna Beltran Dec 2025

The Effects Of Kanpu Masatsu On Sleep Quality And Fatigue Among Older Adults, Aidan Miranda, Yessica Luna Beltran

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Sleep quality is crucial for overall health, particularly among older adults. Kanpu Masatsu (KM), a traditional Japanese self-massage technique using dry towels, has been associated with health benefits for this population. PURPOSE: This study explores the effects of performing Kanpu Masatsu before bedtime on sleep quality and fatigue levels. METHODS: Twelve healthy older adults (3 men and 9 women; age 60.67 ± 1.69 years) were recruited to monitor their sleep over 14 days using a Fitbit Sense 2. During the second week, participants performed a whole-body Kanpu Masatsu within 10 minutes before sleep. Sleep quality was assessed via Fitbit’s sleep …

Accuracy Of The Garmin Instinct For Heart Rate Monitoring During Forearm Exercise With And Without Blood Flow Restriction, Danilo Dullas, Clifford Sanders, Yahtziri Martinez, Tevin Perez, Alana Tucker, Amelia Wolfe, Juni Timmins, Catalina M. Kerwin, Kynlee Sperry, Cannon Jones, Heather Zent, Sam Brinkerhoff, Setareh Zarei, Jeff Guzman, Rodolfo I. Mejia, Nathaniel Bodell, James W. Navalta, Merrill Funk, Jeffrey Cowley, Marcus M. Lawrence

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Wearable devices are widely used to monitor heart rate (HR) during exercise, but their accuracy under blood flow restriction (BFR) remains uncertain. Because BFR is increasingly applied in rehabilitation and strength training, accurate HR monitoring is essential for both safety and prescription. The PURPOSE of this study was to evaluate the reliability of the Garmin Instinct smartwatch for measuring HR during forearm exercise with and without BFR, compared to a chest-strap criterion device. METHODS: Twenty-three healthy adults (9 females, 14 males; mean age = 24.74 ± 8.19 years) participated in a repeated-measures design. After providing consent and being fitted with …

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Blood flow restriction (BFR) training has acquired significant attention in rehabilitation and performance sciences. Polar is a popular heart rate (HR) device manufacturer, Polar Electro OY. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity of HR from the Polar Verity Sense biceps band vs the Polar H10 chest strap during a hand grip assessment with blood flow restriction. METHODS: Twenty-three adults (9 females, 14 males, Identified otherwise n = 0; age=24.74±8.19 years, height = 172 cm (SD =9) Mass = 79kg (SD= 18.5) were recruited via convenience sampling. Participants were asked to do a warm-up including 5-min …

The Perceived Effects Of Gaslighting In K-12 Public Schools: An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis, Landon Williams Dec 2025

The Perceived Effects Of Gaslighting In K-12 Public Schools: An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis, Landon Williams

Dissertations

The problems and mechanisms of gaslighting in the K–12 academic setting parallel those in other professional contexts. The gaslighting phenomenon threatens the optimal performance organizations, although little research exists within the context of K–12 public education that addresses perceptions of gaslighting. The purpose of this qualitative research study was to investigate the perceptions of gaslighting among employees within a K–12 educational setting and to explore its potential impact. This study relied on data collected from interview participants (N=16) via Zoom and components of interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA) to better understand the phenomenon of gaslighting in the context of K–12 education. …

Using Descriptive Phenomenology To Understand Women In Leadership Navigating Work-Life Integration Before And After The Coronavirus Pandemic, Tara Elaine Scroggins Glass Dec 2025

Using Descriptive Phenomenology To Understand Women In Leadership Navigating Work-Life Integration Before And After The Coronavirus Pandemic, Tara Elaine Scroggins Glass

Dissertations

This phenomenological study examined the lived experiences of women leaders as they integrated professional and personal roles before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Although leadership during crisis has been widely studied, limited research has explored how women leaders across diverse sectors negotiated organizational change while sustaining worklife integration. Guided by the Haddon et al. (2009) model of work-life integration and informed by role conflict, conservation of resources, and intersectionality theories, this study sought to capture the essence of women leaders’ experiences navigating unprecedented disruption. Data were collected through semi-structured virtual interviews with twelve women leaders representing healthcare, education, corporate, …

Sustaining The Workforce: Using Improvement Science To Improve Teacher Self-Efficacy And Well-Being, Stephanie A. Hagerty Dec 2025

Sustaining The Workforce: Using Improvement Science To Improve Teacher Self-Efficacy And Well-Being, Stephanie A. Hagerty

Dissertations

Teacher stress remains one of the most pressing challenges facing the education profession, contributing to job dissatisfaction and teacher attrition. This dissertation examines the impact of an intervention designed to improve teacher self-efficacy and well-being. The Leadership Alphabet of Disposition Development Engagement and Reflection (LADDER) framework on teacher self-efficacy and well-being was implemented within a middle school setting. Improvement Science and Adaptive Leadership guided the case study. As defined by Hinnant-Crawford (2020), “Improvement Science is a methodic way of improving; it is distinct from evaluation or impact studies” (p. 23). The goal was to design, implement, and evaluate a strategy …

Using Improvement Science To Build Collective Teacher Efficacy Among Special Education And General Education Co-Teachers In A Title I Elementary School, Pauletha Monique Butts Dec 2025

Using Improvement Science To Build Collective Teacher Efficacy Among Special Education And General Education Co-Teachers In A Title I Elementary School, Pauletha Monique Butts

Dissertations

In this improvement science dissertation, I examined how strengthening co-teaching approaches through targeted training on roles and responsibilities and scheduling time for collaboration builds collective teacher efficacy to improve student achievement for all learners. I conducted a root cause analysis using the Gately and Gately (2001) Co-teaching Rating Scales to better understand the barriers to effective co-teaching in a Title I elementary school in a midsize school district. I implemented two intervention cycles to support general and special education teachers in increasing collective teacher efficacy. The first intervention provided a one-day professional development seminar. The second intervention facilitated planning of …
