The primary purpose of this study was to determine if neighborhood and school type help to predict 4th and 6th grade academic achievement above and beyond traditional socioeconomic status (SES) indices. A second purpose was to determine whether the findings of environmental effects research for smaller-size cities differ from studies which investigate larger urban centers. The study also sought to identify potential ways neighborhoods could be meaningfully classified in ways that might aid future research, and the possible presence of schools that succeed despite a profile that says they should not. Public high schools do not consistently use one method to measure student dropout rates. The purpose of this study was to identify differences in the reasons given by principals and district office administrators from various size public high school/districts which describe willingness or unwillingness to adopt the cohort method as the standard measure of student dropout rates.

Public school superintendents from Nebraska were asked to indicate their priorities toward school restructuring in five areas identified by the researcher. The areas of inquiry included school goals, school curriculum, instruction or methodology, evaluation and school organization. Current literature in each of the areas of school reform was investigated in order to devise survey statements that all public school superintendents could rank order as to their highest priorities toward school restructuring. Of the 311 surveys mailed to superintendents, a total of 191 were returned. The responses represented 61.4% of Nebraska public school superintendents. The purpose for conducting this study was to examine the relationship between gender, ethnicity, grade level, lunch status, and self-concept. This study was designed to Investigate the self-concept of fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students in selected elementary schools within the Omaha (NE) Public School District. Self-concept of students was Indicated through the responses given to the 80 Items on the Plers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale. Grade level, ethnicity, gender, and lunch status were collected from the same student respondents who provided answers to the Plers-Harris. The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and practices of the evaluation process of school superintendents in Nebraska as viewed by them. A review of the literature provided the major impetus for this study. The data were collected through administration of a questionnaire mailed to 18 Class A superintendents and 31 randomly selected superintendents each from Classes B, C, and D. Descriptive statistics were used to report quantitative data. A one-way ANOVA and chi-square were used to report Likert scale and mutually exclusive items, respectively.

Although all prospective student nurses applying to the Nebraska Methodist Hospital School of Nursing are required to take the Johnson Temperament Analysis, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, and to check the Problem Check List Form for School of Nursing, no actual value of the scores had been established. It appeared as though deviations above and below the fiftieth percentile on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory might be predictive of adjustment problems in nursing students.
