The Math Science Program specifically targets students who are interested in pursuing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) college majors and career fields, and who are looking for new, challenging academic opportunities not offered in their schools. A year round program, UBMS includes academic and summer opportunities. Academic Counselors meet with students at their high schools for academic services September through May, and in turn students spend six intensive weeks during June and July on the University of Maine’s Orono campus for our summer program.

This was a brief 2013 update to the Bureau of Labor Education’s (BLE) 2011 briefing paper, “The Truth about ‘Right to Work’ Laws". There were two major new points in this update: 1) the addition of two more states to the number of states with right-to-work laws, and 2) a review of a recent study of the effects of RTW laws on workers’ wages and benefits.

This chapter describes a standards-based framework of information literacy instruction (ILI) for undergraduate engineering students. It begins by identifying characteristics of information literacy that are most relevant to the engineering curriculum, framed by a review of the ACRL’s Information Literacy Standards for Science and Engineering/Technology. Recommendations for delivering ILI to undergraduate engineering students are given, drawing from a pilot program for integrating information literacy into the Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program at the University of Maine. Finally, assessment strategies for ILI curricula are provided, based on examples from the MET pilot. Throughout the chapter, core engineering information resources are identified, …
