Teacher Stress Sources, Manifestations, And Coping Self-Efficacy During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Amanda S. Locke-Bayer

Education Doctoral

The purpose of this cross-sectional quantitative study was to examine the stress sources, stress manifestations, and coping efficacy of K–12 teachers during COVID-19 with a sample of 220 K–12 teachers in New York State. Chronic exposure to stress can lead teachers to experience poor emotional and physical health, causing them to often exit the field of education. In addition, the effects of teacher stress can create a tremendous financial burden on school districts and negatively influence learning environments for students. The results of this study suggest that K–12 teachers with high levels of time management stress reported decreased confidence in …

The Seneca Falls Dialogues Journal

This article introduces readers to Appreciative Inquiry as a form of feminist engagement in higher education. Appreciative Inquiry is a strength-based approach to organizational change that builds on positive psychology as well as social construction of language. At Rochester Institute’s College of Liberal Arts, a group of women faculty currently pursues an Appreciative Inquiry process to change their institutional environment to make it more beneficial to the success of women (and colleagues of all genders) rather than changing themselves to better fit into the existing environment. At the 2014 Seneca Falls Dialogues, members of this group engaged conference participants in …

The Potential Of Ecofeminism To Develop ‘Deep’ Sustainability Competencies For Education For Sustainable Development, Susan V. Iverson

The Seneca Falls Dialogues Journal

Education for sustainable development (ESD) has gained much currency in the literature; yet, less attention has been given to understanding or defining learning outcomes, or rather, what competencies for sustainability should students develop and be able to demonstrate. In this position paper, I ask (and answer) the question, “What might be gained by bringing a feminist lens, and specifically an ecofeminist perspective, to ESD?” I argue that infusing ecofeminism into ESD can develop students’ sustainability competence beyond individual level change to thinking and acting systemically; it can develop the critical consciousness, activist skills, and deeper sustainability knowledge needed to foster …

Shakespeare In The Wake Of #Blacklivesmatter: Teaching The Bard And Exploring Racism, Kathryn S. Kelly

The Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Research

This essay examines the ways in which teachers (specifically pre-service teachers) can approach teaching Shakespeare’s work in a culturally responsive manner in order to promote anti-racism and social awareness in the classroom, school community, and the world. This proposal for teaching Shakespeare includes a case study of Othello that is designed according to the principles in the Social Justice Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (SJPACK) framework created by Jeanne Dyches and Ashley Boyd to prepare pre-service teachers for the discussions about race they will someday facilitate with their students. The framework focuses on teaching the history of racism in the Early …

Leading At The Speed Of Learning: Superintendent Leadership Of P-12 Technology During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Dominick J. Lisi

COVID-19 significantly disrupted education in districts across New York State, forcing school administrators and stakeholders to respond to an unpredictable pattern of lockdowns and restrictions. As a result of the lockdowns, school districts transitioned to remote learning and a reliance upon digital learning technologies. Previous research has indicated numerous challenges superintendents face in implementing technology such as resistance to change or lack of adequate resources. With the onset of the pandemic and the transition to online learning, the luxury of implementing programs such as one-to-one computing became necessity. The goal of this study was to better understand how the application …

Employee substance use has impacted organizational structure, resulting in problems such as poor performance, absenteeism, financial loss and workers compensation claim cost as a result of safety risks. Driven by federal and state legislation to provide a safe and healthy work environment, employers have implemented non-integrated and integrated deterrence/support programs for reducing the harmful effects of employee drug use.
