Edutourism: The Nigeria Educational Challenges And International Students’ Choice Of Study In Nigerian Universities, Olukunle Saheed Oludeyi, Samuel Olutokunbo Adekalu

Olukunle Saheed, OLUDEYI

This paper takes a cursory look into the various challenges influencing international students and other study-tourists in their choice of study destination with particular emphasis on the ‘pull and push factors’ in Nigeria educational systems. With secondary information and discourse analysis of existing literatures, the study revealed that there are a growing number of outbound Nigerians searching abroad for educational empowerment compared with the fewer number of inbound students-tourists. While pull factors are non-existent, there are numerous push factors in Nigerian educational system which include underfunding, unprecedented industrial unrest (with ASUU being a protagonist), cultism and cult-related violence, poor educational …

Examining The Transition To A Four-Day School Week And Investigating Post-Change Faculty/Staff Work-Life Balance: A Community College Case Study, Nelly Cardinale Jun 2013

Examining The Transition To A Four-Day School Week And Investigating Post-Change Faculty/Staff Work-Life Balance: A Community College Case Study, Nelly Cardinale

Dr. Nelly Cardinale

This single descriptive embedded case study examined the process of implementing a four-day work/school week at a community college and investigated post-change faculty/staff work-life balance. All of the students attending this college live at home. The change was implemented due to state funding shortfalls, increasing college utility expenses and low employee morale. Additionally, this study resulted in a set of guidelines that can be used by change agents of similar colleges to implement this change. Moreover, the study describes the positive and negative aspects associated with the shorter work/school week. On a positive note, the schedule facilitates making personal appointments, …

Risk Analysis & Management In Student-Centered Spacecraft Development Projects, Jeremy Straub, Ronald Fevig, James Casler, Om Yadav Jan 2013

Risk Analysis & Management In Student-Centered Spacecraft Development Projects, Jeremy Straub, Ronald Fevig, James Casler, Om Yadav

Jeremy Straub

Student involvement in any engineering project introduces an element of risk. This risk is particularly pronounced with small spacecraft projects, as a failure of the spacecraft on-orbit can result in a complete failure of the mission. However, student involvement in these projects is critical to allow research aims to be accomplished, in a university setting, and to train the next generation of spacecraft engineering professionals. The nature of risks posed by student involvement is discussed and a framework for assessing and mitigating these risks presented.

A Critical Examination Of The Relationship Between The Use Of Gatekeepers, Trust, And Organisation Knowledge-Sharing, Deogratias Harorimana Dr Oct 2012

A Critical Examination Of The Relationship Between The Use Of Gatekeepers, Trust, And Organisation Knowledge-Sharing, Deogratias Harorimana Dr

Dr Deogratias Harorimana

This thesis critically examines the relationship between gatekeepers, trust, and an organisation’s knowledge sharing. The research applied mixed methods with the case study approach. In this research the concept ‘gatekeeper’ is widely used to represent a class of those who are part of a knowledge management strategy; they collect information and knowledge and contextualise this before they can share it with the rest of the members of the organisation’s knowledge networks - within the formal and informal organisation. In this study, it was found that there was a strong relationship between the openness of a given firm, as regards its …

Board Members' Education And Firm Performance: Evidence From A Developing Economy, Salim Darmadi Jan 2012

Board Members' Education And Firm Performance: Evidence From A Developing Economy, Salim Darmadi

Salim Darmadi

Empirical studies focusing on the influence of the educational backgrounds of CEO and board members on firm performance are scarce in the literature. This study makes a contribution by addressing such an issue in the context of Indonesia, a developing country that adopts a two-tier board system. Using annual reports to collect information on the educational qualification of board members, I employ a sample consisting of 160 firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). I use four measures of educational qualification in this study, namely postgraduate degrees, degrees obtained from prestigious domestic universities, degrees obtained from developed countries, and …

The Relationship Development And Learning Organization Dimensions., Yuhfen Diana H. Wu, Connie K. Haley Dr.

Diana H. Wu

This research examined the relationship among learning organization dimensions, leadership development, employee development, and their interactions with two demographic variables (gender and ethnicity) in the context of libraries. The researchers conducted a multivariate analysis of the variance to assess the differences by leadership training groups (low training hours vs. high training hours), or by gender; and by workplace training groups (low vs. high), or by ethnicity (white vs. all others) on a linear combination of the seven dimensions of the learning organization. A conclusive summary is provided along with contributive discussion. Implications and contributions to librarians are discussed in addition …

Leaders Of Today Are Challenged By Generation X Workforce Retention, Joyce K. Kutin Sep 2011

Leaders Of Today Are Challenged By Generation X Workforce Retention, Joyce K. Kutin

Joyce K Kutin RN, MSN, MOL

Many organizations today are comprised of a culturally diverse workforce. In addition to organizational diversity related to gender, ethnicity, race, or religious beliefs, there are also four different generations working side by side. Today’s workforce includes the Silent Generation, the Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Generation Y. The Silent Generation is known for their lifestyle approach of consistency, uniformity, conformity, law and order, hard work and playing by the rules. Baby Boomers were the first generation to grow up with television; they were the first to have broad access to news, issues, advertising, and a variety of programming. Generation X …

Canada: Managing Diversity And Social Cohesion Under Bill C-50 And Beyond, Hristina Petrova Jan 2010

Canada: Managing Diversity And Social Cohesion Under Bill C-50 And Beyond, Hristina Petrova

Hristina Petrova

The recent changes in the Canadian immigration system have led to the development of other programs designed to attract highly skilled immigrants. Bill C-50 was implemented in order to reduce the immigration backlog and match supply with demand on the labour market. Whatever the scheme, there’s one particular group of immigrants whose entry into the country has been encouraged via numerous parallel initiatives – the one of international students. Their retention is strategic because they could be just what Canada needs – young people proficient in the official languages, with Canadian credentials and work experience.
