Multilevel Item Response Models: An Approach To Errors In Variables Regression, Ray Adams, M Wilson, Margaret Wu Dec 1996

Multilevel Item Response Models: An Approach To Errors In Variables Regression, Ray Adams, M Wilson, Margaret Wu

Prof Ray Adams

In this article the authors show how certain analytic problems that arise when one attempts to use latent variables as outcomes in regression analyses can be addressed by taking a multilevel perspective on item response modelling.

A Study Of Principals' Interpersonal Behaviour And School Environment, John Cresswell Dec 1996

A Study Of Principals' Interpersonal Behaviour And School Environment, John Cresswell

Dr John Cresswell

This thesis describes a research study that investigated associations between teachers' perceptions of principals' interpersonal behaviour and psychosocial environments of secondary schools in Australia. In the past 25 years, much attention has been given to the development and use of instruments to assess the qualities of the classroom and school environment from the perspectives of students and teachers. A new instrument (the Principal Interaction Questionnaire) was developed and validated to measure principals' interpersonal behaviour as perceived by their teachers. The instrument was developed from the Questionnaire on Teacher Interaction. The teachers' perceptions of the school environments are assessed by the …

Bias In Weighted Likelihood Estimation When Using The Rasch Model, D Roberts, Ray Adams Dec 1996

Bias In Weighted Likelihood Estimation When Using The Rasch Model, D Roberts, Ray Adams

Prof Ray Adams

There are three methods of maximum likelihood estimation that are commonly used with Rasch item response models: Joint maximum likelihood, which provides point estimates for both person and item parameters; conditional maximum likelihood, which produces estimates for the item parameters only, and marginal maximum likelihood, which produces estimates of the item parameters and parameters of the distribution from which it has been assumed that the persons have been sampled. A number of approaches have been suggested for obtaining ability estimates for subsequent use in reporting or analysis when either conditional or marginal methods have been used to obtain the item …

October: An Education Journal, Rowan Cahill

Rowan Cahill

This 8-page pamphlet/zine is written in the form of a diary for the month of October, 1997, and was published by Bull Ant Press, Bowral (1997). In it the author comments widely on contemporary education issues, in particular the modern trend towards the corporatisation of education, a process he sees as devaluing independent and critical thought in favour of wall-to-wall assessments and examining, utility, bureaucratisation, and education reflecting "corporate and market place ideologies and practices".
