Professor Vibhuti Patel

It is important to understand the context in which gender budgeting has acquired great attention in the Union Budget 2013-14. India’s record for achieving the Millennium Development Goals has been extremely poor as compared to several African, Latin American and Asian Counties. In international for a “Shining India” India has been named and shamed continuously for not being able to reduce maternal mortality rate and child mortality rate, wide spread anaemia and malnutrition among women and children, starvation deaths in certain pockets, sky rocketing prices of essential goods for the poor, namely food, water and cooking fuel.

Vencer A Crise. Ética, Psicologia E Partidos, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha Jan 2013

Vencer A Crise. Ética, Psicologia E Partidos, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

Getting Real About Globalization And Legal Education: Potential And Perspectives For The U.S., Carole Silver

Carole Silver

This article addresses whether US law schools are preparing their JD students to work in the global environment that many - if not most – law graduates will encounter. It begins by considering the significance of globalization for legal education, drawing on research analyzing its influence on legal practice as well as on higher education. It then explores possible settings and opportunities for learning to work in a global environment. For the vast majority of students whose learning must occur in the US, the presence of international students in their law school offers the potential for creating a global learning …

Protecting Employee Rights And Prosecuting Corporate Crimes: A Proposal For Criminal Cumis Counsel, Josephine Sandler Nelson Dec 2012

Protecting Employee Rights And Prosecuting Corporate Crimes: A Proposal For Criminal Cumis Counsel, Josephine Sandler Nelson

J.S. Nelson

To address multi-dimensional conflict of interest problems in directors and officers (D&O) indemnification cases, we propose a solution that was originally developed for civil insurance cases in California, but that has an even more powerful and appropriate application in the context of criminal employee defendants.
Corporate crime costs the United States a staggering $600 billion a year. By contrast, the total cost of all non-corporate crime in 2001 from robbery, burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft combined was $17.2 billion; less than one-third of what fraudulent activities at the single company of Enron cost investors, pensioners, and employees in the …

Answering Legal Problem Questions In A Grid Format, Alex Steel, Dominic Fitzsimmons Dec 2012

Answering Legal Problem Questions In A Grid Format, Alex Steel, Dominic Fitzsimmons

Alex Steel

The development of legal reasoning skills is a fundamental aspect of legal education. What has sometimes been called “learning to think like a lawyer” is a threshold competency that students must acquire before they can progress to more complex analysis of broader legal issues. This chapter discusses the use of problem-based scenarios to both engage students and to develop legal analysis. It outlines the threshold difficulties students must overcome in order to read texts as a lawyer and explains how use of a grid format answer – rather than an essay format – can both assist students to overcome these …

The Rights Of Disabled Students, Derek W. Black, Robert A. Garda Jr., John E. Taylor, Emily Gold Waldman

Education Law: Equality, Fairness, and Reform situates case law in the broader education world by including edited versions of federal policy guidance, seminal law review articles, social science studies, and policy reports. It offers comprehensive coverage of education law while also focusing specifically on equality and civil rights issues. It includes individual chapters on each major area of inequality: race, poverty, gender, disability, homelessness, and language status. Those chapters are followed by a structured approach to the complex first amendment questions, dividing the first amendment into three different chapters and addressing, in order, freedom of expression and thought, religion in …

It Takes A Team: A Semester Success Story Of Writing, Receiving, And Executing A Grant In One Semester With An English 1110.01 Class, Robert A. Eckhart, Michelle Battista

Robert A. Eckhart

The model for an inquiry-based undergraduate experience has been embraced and is thriving. But the primary focus of the undergraduate participation in research is happening outside the classroom—as an extracurricular, similar to climbing the rock wall at the Adventure Recreation Center, or swimming laps in the pool. What would happen if research was built into an undergraduate course? What if it was built into the single most widely-taken course at OSU, English 1110? Through a unique convergence of resources and people at Ohio State, we had an opportunity to answer exactly this question last semester. Co-authored by two students in …
