Research shows that social-emotional learning has a direct impact on the academic and overall success of students in educational environments and beyond. The purpose of this action research project was to determine the impact of explicit action research training during teacher candidates’ clinical experience with the hope of increasing their self-efficacy as reflective practitioners. This study focused on the Numeracy Intervention Project designed to detect gaps in student's mathematical learning. Research took place in the special education setting with one participant. Participants qualified by having an Individualized Education Plan with a goal specific to math instruction. The intervention took place over a two-week time period where the researcher and student met each day for thirty minutes. The Numeracy Intervention provided a scripted baseline assessment, hands on manipulatives, and several specific skill activities. Results from the baseline to post assessment showed no significant results. Study limitations and future research are included.

Self-efficacy plays an important role in academic performance and self-concept development. This action research investigates the effects of self-efficacy on self-assessment accuracy among engineering students during a 3D modeling unit. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the study contains Likert scales to assess self-efficacy and quantitative methods to determine student's predicted and actual performance. Findings reveal that while self-efficacy improves over time, students become more likely to underestimate their abilities. The study suggests the need for a variety of feedback sources and highlights potential limitations in the tested self-assessment practices. This paper describes a fluency intervention plan for an at-risk group of third graders in Newton, Iowa. The components of a good fluency intervention include repeated reading, motivation, peer involvement, and small group size. Utilizing research on these topics, the author created a fluency intervention to implement within a thirty-minute time period each day. This paper provides a timeline of specific changes that will be made to improve fluency scores for these students.

This action research was driven by the researcher's interest in increasing students' math fact knowledge. The researcher implemented both an iPad and flash card intervention to determine and compare the effectiveness of each. Two-minute addition and subtraction probes were utilized as a pre and post-test to determine growth. A student survey was also given to determine students' interest in their respective intervention. The findings revealed that both interventions resulted in growth in both addition and subtraction facts, but there was no significant difference in growth between the two. Recent research suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacted literacy achievement. A school improvement plan was created to improve literacy achievement by leveraging the positive effects of individual and team goal-setting on student motivation and student achievement. Past studies have shown that growth and learning goals are more effective than performance goals and that a combination of distal and proximal goals lead to optimal performance. This school improvement plan uses the Leader in Me framework to set proximal and distal goals, aligning all individual student goals with the school’s team goal, to improve literacy achievement.
