Developing relevant and engaging faculty development (FD) is a difficult but essential task in medical education. Through FD, faculty are aided in adapting their teaching styles and strategies to meet changing educational environments and student needs.

The Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) is home to Osteopathic Medicine, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Anatomy PhD, and Master of Science programs. Before we can discuss the science of how your students learn, we need to discuss how you teach. Do you lecture only? If you engage students in the learning, how do you engage them? We will answer these questions as we dive into adult learning theories and the concept of andragogy (learning outcomes). An understanding of different adult learning theories helped faculty select the best instructional strategies, learning objectives, and assessment approaches (Mukhalalati & Taylor, 2019).
