Product assessment is the assessment of students' mastery of the processes and tools required to make products (for example, design and production processes) and the assessment of the practical and/ or aesthetic qualities of the items students make. This is a guide to assessing student products in the technology and visual arts curriculum. It is an issue in the Assessment Resource Kit (ARK) magazine series …

Mapping Literacy Achievement: Results Of The 1996 National School English Literacy Survey: Incorporating A Report On The Survey Principles, Procedures And Findings, Geoff N. Masters, Margaret Forster

Monitoring Learning

The national school English literacy survey conducted in 1996 provides the most comprehensive picture yet developed of the literacy achievements of Year 3 and Year 5 students in Australian schools. The most significant finding of the survey is the wide range of literacy achievement among Australian children. The top ten per cent of students in each year are working about five year levels ahead of the bottom ten per cent. This range indicates the complexity of the teacher's task in providing appropriate learning opportunities for all students, and the need for schools to reflect on the implications of this range …

School Students And Part-Time Work, Lyn Robinson Oct 1996

School Students And Part-Time Work, Lyn Robinson

LSAY Research Reports

This report is about student-workers. The youthful part-time workers encountered in supermarket delicatessens, hot bread shops and fast food stores throughout Australia in the 1990s are very likely to also be full-time secondary school students. Over the past two to three decades, the increasing number of students who combine study at school with part-time employment outside of school hours has been widely observed, although estimates of how many school students have jobs vary greatly. Furthermore, while the trend has been well recognised, its implications have frequently been overlooked. Consideration of the student-worker phenomenon gives rise to a number of questions …

Completing School In Australia: Trends In The 1990s, Stephen Lamb

LSAY Research Reports

To help examine the recent downturn in school completion rates in Australia this report makes use of two sources of data. The figures provide aggregate information on school retention and participation by state and school system. The second set of data is from the Australian Youth Survey which …
