The purpose of this study was to investigate the lifelong meaning and influence of participation in a high school choral music program. This study described and analyzed the reflections of adults who participated in one high school choral program selected by the researcher as meeting high standards of practice in choral music. The eight participants, who were involved in the choral program for at least three years and pursued careers in fields other than music, were selected via criterion sampling and interviewed regarding their experiences in chorus and how those experiences may have influenced their lives. Scale development in psychological studies is an area of intense growth (Clark & Watson, 1995). This report builds upon academic interest in the value of producing viable measurement tools. The purpose of this research project was to evaluate a self-efficacy measurement scale intended to determine individual music students' perceptions of capability. The areas of interest were four self-regulatory skill domains: strategy use, planning, monitoring, and evaluating in two music environments: independent practicing and performance.

The Effects Of Songs In The Foreign Language Classroom On Text Recall And Involuntary Mental Rehearsal, Claudia Smith Salcedo

This study investigated the effect of music on text recall and involuntary mental rehearsal (din) with students from four college-level Beginning Spanish classes. Two groups heard texts as songs, one group heard the same texts as speech, and one group was the control group. For the text recall variable, a cloze test was administered at the end of each song treatment to determine total words recalled. Students from one of the music groups heard the melody of the song while testing. For the din variable, students were asked to report on the amount of this phenomenon experienced. The purpose of this study was to design and develop a model handbook of administrative and management procedures to guide secondary school instrumental music teachers and directors in the Prosser, Washington, School District. To accomplish this purpose, current research and literature on secondary instrumental music, and the administration and management of music programs was reviewed. Additionally, selected materials were obtained from secondary music programs of similar size in eastern Washington.

It can only be shared through communication. The place of music within the curriculum will be understood through this communication between the music educator and the chief administrator.
