Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Schools all over the world are embracing technology because they view technology as a catalyst to improve teaching and learning, leading to further investment in technology initiatives for school improvement. The 1:1 teacher laptop program is one such initiative that continues to gain interest and momentum. Despite widespread adoption, teachers continue to face challenges with the use of technology. Furthermore, while research has indicated that teacher technology efficacy is a significant enabling factor for technology use, there is limited evidence for how the 1:1 teacher laptop program has influenced teacher technology efficacy. The purpose of this qualitative pragmatic study was …

Low Adoption Of Digital Technology Among Indigenous People In Guyana, Volda Elliott

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Training is a vital component for crystallizing acceptable technological classroom practices. Still, Indigenous Amerindian preservice teachers needed first to acquire the skills and overcome the technological barriers to better prepare learners beyond the classroom. Even though internet access would allow Indigenous Amerindians in Guyana to develop technology literacy skills and access educational resources, Indigenous preservice teachers have a low rate of technology adoption in the classroom. The purpose of this basic qualitative study is to discover the perceptions of Indigenous Amerindian preservice teachers about the adoption of digital technology in the classroom. Rogers’s diffusion of innovation theory and David and …

Teach-To-One Blended Mathematics' Impact On Middle School Students' Mathematics Achievement, Navdeep Dhindsa Jan 2020

Teach-To-One Blended Mathematics' Impact On Middle School Students' Mathematics Achievement, Navdeep Dhindsa

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Blended learning that integrates computer-assisted instruction with face-to-face instruction is gaining popularity in U.S. middle schools; therefore, the effectiveness of such blended learning models in improving middle school students' achievement in mathematics needs to be explored. Middle school students at a public Connecticut school have shown poor performance in mathematics on a state standardized test. The local district implemented a blended learning model, Teach to One: Math (TTO), in 1 of the middle schools to improve students' performance in mathematics. The theoretical framework for this study was Koehler and Mishra's theory of technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge. The key research …

Teacher Twitter Participation For Reflection On Pedagogical Practices, Jeanette Delgado Jan 2020

Teacher Twitter Participation For Reflection On Pedagogical Practices, Jeanette Delgado

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Classroom teachers' professional isolation can affect their attitude and performance each day. Research has shown that Twitter is a place where teachers connect, collaborate, and engage. Exploring A Nursing Faculty’S Perceived Level Of Engagement With High-Fidelity Simulation Experiences, Filipina Hernandez Jan 2020

Exploring A Nursing Faculty’S Perceived Level Of Engagement With High-Fidelity Simulation Experiences, Filipina Hernandez

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractResearchers from several disciplines concluded that deep engagement in an organization is critical to its success. However, little is known about a nursing faculty’s engagement experiences with high-fidelity simulation (HFS), which could establish the critical link between deep engagement and HFS’ successful integration in nursing programs. Grounded in the alternative model of engagement in learning, bridging this knowledge gap was the purpose of this study. The research question of this phenomenological study explored the nursing faculty’s perceived level of engagement with their HFS experiences. A purposeful sampling of 10 nursing faculty were interviewed using semistructured interview process. Van Kaam’s interpretative, …

Teachers' Knowledge And Self-Efficacy Beliefs As Factors Affecting Technology Integration Practices, Armando L. Gilkes

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Research indicates that teachers can be reluctant to integrate technology into their instructional practices. This study examined the problem of insufficient technology integration in high school classrooms, using social learning theory and motivational systems theory as theoretical frameworks. A cross-sectional survey design was used to investigate the relationship between the independent variables, technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK), teacher self-efficacy (TSE), and teacher characteristics (experience, education, and subject taught), and the dependent variable, technology integration level (TI). A combined online TPACK questionnaire, Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale, and Concerns-Based Adoption Model survey were completed by 72 teachers from 6 high schools …
