Improving The Computational Thinking Pedagogical Capabilities Of School Teachers, Matt Bower, Leigh N. Wood, Jennifer W.M. Lai, Cathie Howe, Raymond Lister, Raina Mason, Kate Highfield, Jennifer Veal
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
The idea of computational thinking as skills and universal competence which every child should possess emerged last decade and has been gaining traction ever since. This raises a number of questions, including how to integrate computational thinking into the curriculum, whether teachers have computational thinking pedagogical capabilities to teach children, and the important professional development and training areas for teachers. The aim of this paper is to address the strategic issues by illustrating a series of computational thinking workshops for Foundation to Year 8 teachers held at an Australian university. Data indicated that teachers' computational thinking understanding, pedagogical capabilities, technological …
The Impact Of Standardized Patients On Physical Assessment Skills, Clinical Judgment, And Self-Efficacy In Undergraduate Nursing Students, Allison Mueller
The Impact Of Standardized Patients On Physical Assessment Skills, Clinical Judgment, And Self-Efficacy In Undergraduate Nursing Students, Allison Mueller
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The healthcare industry is seeing constant changes in patient acuity, expanding care environments, new healthcare policies, and continual advancements in research and technology. To overcome these challenges, nurses must receive education that adequately prepares them with confidence, clinical judgment, and the proper skills to provide safe and quality care to patients. More specifically, nurses must have strong physical assessment skills, sound clinical judgment, and high levels of self-efficacy (Chong, Lim, Liu, Lau, & Wu, 2016; Institute of Medicine (IOM), 2010). Peer physical assessments are generally the standard for practicing and validating physical assessment skills (Slater, Bryant, & Ng, 2016). Standardized …

Assessing In-Service Teachers’ Chemistry Content Knowledge And Self-Efficacy In Teaching The K To 12 Science Curriculum, Yna Camille A. Mongcal, Queena N. Lee-Chua, Armando M. Guidote Jr
Chemistry Faculty Publications
As the K to 12 Science program was formally implemented, interventions to enhance competence and confidence of teachers in teaching science in a spiral progression approach are main concerns. This study aims to assess the chemistry content knowledge and self-efficacy of 38 in-service teachers enrolled in a graduate program from a teacher education institution using a content knowledge test (CKT) and a self-efficacy beliefs scale (SeS) using a mixed-method approach. Quantitative findings reveal that the least mastered topics in chemistry of the teacher-respondents include solutions, chemical bonding, the mole concept, gas laws, and chemical reactions. The science teachers say they …

Given the current economic and subsequent employment uncertainty, people are returning to college to update their skills and acquire the credentials they need to be competitive in today's workforce. As a result, faculty must be prepared to facilitate the learning process for an ever-changing and more diverse student body.
The purpose of this research is to further the extant body of research in the area of effective student engagement. The variables being used to represent credibility are competence, goodwill and trustworthiness. They were measured using McCroskey and Teven's (1999) Source Credibility Questionnaire. The data for this study were provided by …
Self-Regulated Learning In A Rural, South-Central Kentucky Middle School, Tammy Dungan Board
Self-Regulated Learning In A Rural, South-Central Kentucky Middle School, Tammy Dungan Board
Online Theses and Dissertations
Self-regulated learning is a phenomenon recognized in nations with positive results on international assessments, such as the PISA (Program for International Student Assessment; IES, 2012). This qualitative, non-evaluative study sought to determine the presence of self-regulated learning in a rural middle school in the south-central United States by utilizing a phenomenological approach.
Self-regulated learning is a practice based upon the constructivist learning theories championed by theorists such as Bandura (1995) and Vygotsky (1978). Zimmerman (1990) coined the term self-regulated learning, which reflects a method by which students are responsible for their own learning through four stages: pre-planning, monitoring for progress, …
Relationship Between Self-Efficacy And Work Experience In Baccalaureate Junior And Senior Level Nursing Students, Mallory Wilson, Taylor Byers
Relationship Between Self-Efficacy And Work Experience In Baccalaureate Junior And Senior Level Nursing Students, Mallory Wilson, Taylor Byers
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Background: New nursing graduates entering the healthcare fields have demonstrated competency with clinical skills during their education. However, limited experience with skill performance can leave them prone to clinical errors. Higher self-efficacy levels increase competency as individuals create higher goals and are more easily able to perform tasks. Therefore, work experience during nursing school may increase nursing students’ self-efficacy as they become comfortable performing clinical skills.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between employment in health care facilities and self-efficacy of clinical skills in undergraduate nursing students.
Methods: A non-experimental correlational study using convenience sampling, …
Exploring The Impact Of Postgraduate Preservice Primary Science Education On Students’ Self-Efficacy, Christina Maria Norris
Exploring The Impact Of Postgraduate Preservice Primary Science Education On Students’ Self-Efficacy, Christina Maria Norris
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
The effectiveness of science teaching in primary school is dependent upon teachers’ self-efficacy to teach science. Low self-efficacy has been linked to avoidance of teaching primary science; therefore, preservice teacher self-efficacy requires fostering to have graduates keen to teach primary science. Through an embedded mixed method intrinsic-case study, this research explored the impact of postgraduate preservice primary science education on students’ self-efficacy. This research examined the postgraduate students’ self-efficacy as the lens to determine the effectiveness of the design and pedagogical instruction of the unit and its tutors. Data sources included the use of pre/post surveys encompassing the Science Teaching …
Effects Of A Counseling Program On First-Generation High-School Student Aspirations, Self-Efficacy, Perceived Barriers, Knowledge Of The College-Application Process, And Course Selection, Edress Waziri
Doctoral Dissertations
The benefits of a college degree are clear. Those with a college education are more likely to participate effectively in the governance of the nation, contribute their time and resources to the community, depend less on government services, and engage in fewer crimes (Institute for Higher Education Policy, 1998). According to the literature, the parents’ level of education is a major indicator in determining whether a student completes a 4-year college degree (Perna & Titus, 2005). First-generation students are far less likely to gain admission and complete a degree from a 4-year university, in comparison to non-first-generation students (Tinto, 2006). …
