The Role Of Second-Year College Students' Mindset On Finances And Its Impact On Welness, Susan Koukounas, Steven B. Jubert Jr., Cheryl A. Howell, Elsa-Sofia Morote, Albert Inserra
New York Journal of Student Affairs
This study examined the differentiation among second-year college students from a small urban religious affiliated college in New York City and their four beliefs about household money on five constructs of wellness. Ninety-two participants completed the “TestWell: Wellness Inventory-College Edition” questionnaire. Discriminant analysis evaluated the differences among groups. It was found that students who believed they have plenty of money revealed higher scores for emotional awareness and physical fitness. Student services on college campuses may use this research to offer student financial planning to support and set short and long term budgeting goals that increase retention rates.

Moving From Education 1.0 Through Education 2.0 Towards Education 3.0, Jackie Gerstein
Educational Technology Faculty Publications and Presentations
This article compares the developments of the Internet and the Web with those of education. The web influences people's way of thinking, doing and being, and people influence the development and content of the web. The evolution of the web from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 and now to Web 3.0 can be used as a metaphor of how education should also be evolving, as a movement from Education 1.0 towards that of Education 3.0. The Web, Internet, Social Media, and the evolving, emerging technologies have created a perfect storm or convergence of resources, tools, open and free information access. …

Constructing An "Appropriate" Education In Florida Special Education Due Process Final Orders, Michelle Henry
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study examined how Florida administrative law judges (ALJs) constructed an appropriate education for students with disabilities in their final orders. This study utilized the Johnstone Method as a heuristic in analyzing the data. It examined the construction of an appropriate education from the implementation of PL 94-142 up to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Board of Education v. Rowley (1975-1978), after the Rowley decision (1983-1986), and after the reauthorization of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act in 2004 (2004-2007). Each time period was examined individually and then the results were compared. The data sources included six purposively sampled …

Parental Involvement During Adolescence And Contraceptive Use In College, Caroline Payne Purvis, Rosemary V. Barnett, Larry Forthun
Parental Involvement During Adolescence And Contraceptive Use In College, Caroline Payne Purvis, Rosemary V. Barnett, Larry Forthun
Journal of Adolescent and Family Health
The current study aimed to explore the relationships between parental involvement during adolescence on sexual behaviors among college students. Research has shown that parental involvement decreases as students move from high school to college, but the impact that parents had on their students while in high school continues into college. It is important to determine if one factor relating to the number of sexual partners, sexual activity, and contraceptive use is parental involvement during adolescence. After approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB), an online survey using Survey Monkey was administered to a convenience sample of undergraduate students in a …
The Thoughtful Development Of Others: A Qualitative Study Of The Impact Of Developmental Relationships On Chief Academic Officers In Higher Education, Heidi M. Sherick
The Thoughtful Development Of Others: A Qualitative Study Of The Impact Of Developmental Relationships On Chief Academic Officers In Higher Education, Heidi M. Sherick
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Higher education rarely develops the capacity of its leaders in an intentional way (Eckel & Hartley, 2011). “Colleges and universities, unlike many similarly sized corporations, do not view talent development as a strategic priority” (Eckel & Hartley, 2011, p. 29). The complexity of higher education, as well as the increased demands and challenges, require better prepared leaders. Despite this need, there is little research on informal one-on-one leadership development tactics in higher education. To understand how leadership is fostered informally, this study focused on developmental relationships in higher education. Specifically, this study examined the role developmental relationships, and the functions …
